Bach or holiday home, 1 Bedrooms, 1 Bathrooms, (Sleeps 4)
We are a Canadian/Kiwi couple. My partner grew up on this land and helped his family farm it when he was young. I fell in love with it the first time he brought me up north. We live in Auckland but love our escapes to the bach and often spend our weekends either on the water paddling, or on the land, planting trees (or controlling weeds!).
Why velmajr chose Karkari Peninsula
This bach is built on family land and has a special history to us. Previously farmed, we are gradually returning our property to native bush, and though still small, the native plantings around the bach have all been propagated by us from local sources.
What makes this House unique
This place is good for the soul. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, you will enjoy complete privacy (with the exception of neighbouring cows). The bach is full of light and completely opens up with bifold doors on either side, to let the sun stream in. It is a short drive to multiple beaches - about 800m off Tokerau beach, or you can walk through farm tracks to get there. This isn't a shopping destination or a place to go for fine dining. It is a blissful, serene getaway. Bring your swimsuit and water sports gear, a good book and a bottle of wine and you will be set.

We enjoyed our four night stay. It was certainly very peaceful and private. The cottage was cute, comfortable and had good amenities.
It was very hot and we found having decks on the east and west sides of the cottage very useful. As the sun moved around they provided cool shade throughout the day. The outdoor bath was also good.
Our only negative, it is not practical to walk to the beach. Not because of the distance but because the tracks really were farm working tracks requiring sturdy shoes etc.. There were however numerous great swimming beachs within a very short drive.
Also worth noting there were no comfortable outdoor chairs on the decks, luckly we had bought our own.
Overall a great little place for couple to get some private bliss !!
Thanks so much for your feedback and tips for improvement. Just a wee note though we do have heaps of chairs we keep in the shed. We can’t leave them out as they would blow away and/or break down rapidly in the sun. But I will make sure it’s more clear in instructions for future guests. So I’m sorry about that. We continue to invest in making the place better for our guests as we can, so this is all good to know. Cheers.
Second time here, so peaceful, idyllic, a perfect get away from the busyness and noise of life. An opportunity to escape. Thank you.
Such a lovely spot
So close to Matakana bay and super remote. It is such a great find!
Canucks visit Jan 2020
We are visiting NZ from Vancouver Canada and truly enjoyed our stay on the Karikari Peninsula. Very private bach on farmland with easy access to Karikari beaches and hiking. Very comfortable space with well equipped kitchen, barbecue, decks and even an outdoor bathtub. Our host responded quickly to questions and could not have been more accommodating.
What can we say .... pure "Bliss"
Words simply can't describe how much we enjoyed our holiday here; waking up every morning to birds singing; opening the curtains to see not a cloud in the sky, not a soul in sight, just peacefulness.
In our jobs we have to deal with people all day/every day, so for us a perfect holiday is being able to go somewhere where you don't have to see or speak to anyone the whole time ... this piece of paradise was perfect for.
The whare is spotlessly clean, has absolutely everything you need and more; only a 10-15 min drive to a selection of beautiful beaches for swims, walks or bike rides.
We were so looking forward to staying .... and we were not disappointed. Beautiful, quiet, peaceful .... a slice of heaven on earth!!!!
Thank you so much. Craig and Penny. 😊
The beaches on Tokerau Beach are simply stunning. Go for a swim, a dive, paddle around if you have a kayak or SUP with you, or take the boogie boards from the bach down to the beach.
We are ideally located for a day trip to Cape Reinga, or for a trip to the west coast for a surf at Ahipara.
Carrington Winery is only a 10-minute drive away and offers simply stunning views to sit outside and enjoy a bottle of wine and some snacks.
