About this property
Charming and spacious holiday hideaway with pool
Max’s Place is an ideal summer holiday house for couples, families, extended families or groups of friends. Situated about two minutes by car from Parapara Beach, five minutes from the famous Mussel Inn at Onekaka and about 8 minutes from Tinky’s fish and chip bistro in Collingwood, it is the perfect spot from which to experience the numerous sights and activities Golden Bay has to offer; or simply to kick back and relax by the beautifully sheltered swimming pool.
The property is much-loved family holiday home set on a private, sunny and sheltered four hectares of trees and native bush. It sleeps up to 10 or so people depending on number of couples. For more than 30 years it has provided the owners’ extended family a gathering place for holidays full of fun, wonderful communal meals, adventures in the surrounding bush, relaxing sun-soaked hours by the sheltered swimming pool, entertaining friends from far and wide – or simply an amazing situation to down tools and soak up the native bird-song. It is clean, tidy, and lived-in with a welcoming sense of family and character.
The Homestead comprises the main living. Built in the late 1970s largely out of mudbrick from the property, it has been modernised in parts but remains a quintessential family holiday home -- comfortable, full of character and well-equipped. The Railway Carriage ("Parapara Station'') below the house and adjacent to the swimming pool provides ideal overflow for larger groups, or an escape for those seeking a little privacy or solitude. The property is approximately 10 acres and includes an orchard, a few paddocks, a couple of creeks, one bordered by extensive native plantings, and plantations of pine, macrocarpa and Tasmanian blackwood. When you are tired of the beach or exploring the sights, it's a relaxing and quiet base to return to. Over the years it has been a great holiday place for getting together with family and friends. The carriage is not suitable in the winter.
Special conditions:
Smoking allowed outside only
Pets allowed with prior approval
Swimming pool used at own risk
Young children must be supervised at pool and gates to pool kept closed at all times
Proceeding with rental is taken as acceptance of responsibility for children in the pool
Extras: Cleaning (Required, NZ$100.00 per stay); Linen (Optional, NZ$10.00 per person);

About the host
Hosted by Simon Cunliffe

Our parents lived and worked in many countries around the world before returning to New Zealand and settling in this beautiful part of the country. They are no longer with us, but I currently manage the property on behalf of our extended family. We like to share this charming and atmospheric family home house with people who appreciate a rural setting next to a beach settlement.
Why they chose this property
My brothers and sisters grew up returning here with out own families for great family gatherings and special occasions -- it is private, sheltered, has lots of space indoors and out for people to relax or play, the swimming pool and deck is a much-loved space for children and adults alike -- and it's only a 2 minute drive or 10-minute walk to one of the most beautiful, and often almost deserted, beaches in Golden Bay
What makes this property unique
Close to beach and great location from which to explore the best of Golden Bay
