There are some wonderful walks in our area and your hosts are very knowledgeable in great places to go. We are keen on botany and geology and can direct you to interesting geographical features. Barbara is a trustee with Mōkihi Trust which undertakes botanical restoration in the Cromwell basin. A favourite place is the Bannockburn Sluicings and the Bendigo Heritage area. There are also wonderful lunches to be had at various vineyards. Our favourites are Carrick and Scott Base.
Barbara and Steve are semi-retired professionals. Steve currently works on contracts as a civil engineer (coastal) overseas and in New Zealand, and Barbara is an ex-teacher with a degree in geology and botany, and now runs the accommodation for guests. Barbara also works as a volunteer for Mokihi Trust which carries out ecological restoration in the Cromwell Basin. In the photo we are hiking in the Langtang Valley in Nepal, in 2013. I grew up in the King Country (rural central North Island) and Steve was a Newtown, Wellington boy. We love tramping in the mountains and skiing. When we travel we visit national parks, botanical gardens and skifields. Our most recent trip away was to beautiful Sri Lanka.

Why BarbaraAr4 chose Cromwell
It is in the centre of Central Otago and very handy to Queenstown, Wanaka and Alexandra, the rail trails and the mountains. We enjoy meeting people from all over the world who pass this way.
What makes this Bed And Breakfast unique
We offer off-street parking, privacy, spacious rooms, quiet and comfortable. We have a lovely private garden accessible to the guests with a lawn, shade in summer and also plenty of sunlight. Geological, botanical and geographic knowledge, skifield information, hiking, walking and cycle trail information. Silverlights is a great place to stay for three or four days and each day go in a different direction. For example go curling in Naseby via St Bathans. We also have glorious night skies here. We can direct you to excellent places for viewing the heavens on a clear night..
