Great Barrier if famous for it's fishing, diving, surfing and birdlife/fauna. Our house is in a reserve and our neighbours are Glenfern Sanctuary and Department of Conservation. If you want convenience - forget it. This is a place where there are no supermarkets and shopping, just a local general store and pub. Our house is off the grid, powered by solar panels or generator if no sun. Hot water is from roof solar, wetback fireplace or gas calafont.
This property is accessed by dingy (supplied) or a 20 minute walk from the nearest road. This gives you special privacy as there are very few people around. The house is overlooking the bay so steps up to the house from the beach are reasonably steep - about 25 meters. Also we have a composting toilet system which still has a normal flush toilet - just restricted on what it will process.
