Why amir yussof chose Waikino
We chose this property because of the beautiful location it is in. So secluded and seems off the grid but it is so near to so many activities and towns that everything you need.
What makes this Chalet unique
Alapca, goats and surrounded by native bush, amazing sunsets, star gazing. Nearby the Karangake Gorge and not far from Waihi beach

Night sky was beautiful. The cabin and the bathroom was very clean and tidy. Owner was very accommodating and kind. Thanks for the wonderful experience.
Thanks for choosing us and hope to see you again!
Perfect spot for a weekend away, tucked into the hill looking out over the valley. Amir was lovely and greeted us as soon as we arrived, and made sure we had everything we needed. The batch was exactly as described, clean, bright and awesome. We spent most of the evening outside enjoying the sunset and the stars. We'll be back!
Getaway in the Gorge
Totally recommend this little chalet as a place to get away from it all. Just a few minutes drive off SH2 above the Karangahake Gorge between Paeroa and Waihi, you drive past the beautiful Owharoa Falls, and feel like you're way out in the country, but still only 150km from Auckland. Yes it's snug in terms of space but it has a beautiful outlook over the area. The lawn was a great spot to chill out on a bean-bag with a glass of wine and listen to the wind in the trees. Amir the host was super-friendly and helpful. The chalet and separate bathroom were immaculately clean and there were lots of little touches with the decor and fittings that made it feel welcoming and comfortable. 5 out of 5!
Thanks for the great review and we are so glad you liked The Dome. We hope tyo see you again and thanks for leaving it clean and tidy.
Beautiful escape from the city with stunning views
We had a great two night stay at The Dome. Such lovely hosts, very accommodating. Views are stunning. The Dome itself is so cozy and clean. Alpaca feeding is a must! I would recommend staying here to anyone and would definitely love to go back.
Great having you with us and so glad you enjoyed your stay. We hope to see you again !
A hidden oasis
The Chalet is an unexpected retreat! Nestled up in the trees you feel like you are on top of the world. After an adventurous drive up a gravel roadway the chalet opens up over a valley. Located on the same property as the owner's house, you would never know as the Chalet is nestled on a hill-step with lots of vegetation to keep it secluded. After a brief introduction to the family dogs, we didn't see or hear much of them the entire trip. It was raining during our stay but that make it more magical as the rain danced on the roof. Doesn't have a kitchen but you won't need it... fridge/microwave suffice for quick food and the towns nearby have everything. Of special note is the restaurant Falls Retreat down the road by the waterfall. Perfect "fancy" evening out. You can't go wrong with stayhing here. Definitely recharging!
So glad you enjoyed your stay with us. Unfortunately, we couldn't control the weather but we are glad you found it magical. Thanks for the wonderful review!
We had a lovely weekend here.
We had a lovely weekend here. The view is beautiful and it's a great spot with lots of things to do...and close to a beautiful restaurant. Loved the bird song and having breakfast with a view. Thanks Amir
Thanks for staying with us and hope to see you again one day!
Voted as one of the 101 Must Do's for Kiwis! Many Kiwis will have driven through the breathtaking Karangahake Gorge but few will have ventured into the walkways, old tunnels and discovered the rich history hidden in the gorge. The Karangahake Gorge historic walkway follows the old Paeroa to Waihi railway line with the remainder of the track following the banks of the Ohinemuri River. Old mine buildings and machinery can be seen from a number of locations on the walkway.
A major highlight of the Hauraki Rail Trail includes riding through the stunning Karangahake Gorge, one of the 14 wonders of New Zealand. The trail follows the path of two historic railway lines, running from Thames to Paeroa and Waikino to Te Aroha, while a new path will link Waikino to Waihi. Cyclists can do the Hauraki Rail Trail from the car park, with connections to Waikino, Paeroa and Te Aroha nearby. Please share with care. Cyclists are kindly asked to dismount in certain areas (check for signage).
Dogs are allowed on the Historic Walkway and the Crown Track to Dickey Flat. Dogs must be kept on leads to ensure a good experience for all visitors. A number of short walks including the Windows Walk and Rail Tunnel Loop as well as the longer walks of Karangahake Mountain and the Karangahake Historic Walkway can all be experienced in the gorge. For details on each the walks, refer to their separate listings.
