Our “House on the Hill” is an original (comfy) cottage set on the hill behind Waihi Village. We are surrounded by native bush with expansive views across Lake Taupo; you can see the lights of Taupo at night.
Wake up to the native bird-song; relax all day on the sunny north-facing deck while the kids play on the large sloping lawn. Tokaanu hot-pools are a 2 minute drive away (but once here you probably won’t want to leave).
In winter you are less than an hour from the ski fields. Stay snug in front of the wood burner and toast marshmallows on the outside fire pit.
The house sleeps 6 (two bedrooms plus sofa bed), but you are welcome to set up tents on the lawn (there is a flat(ish) area for this).
Please note we run beehives here though it is very rare to find them inside the house; they are quite content on conducting their own busy schedule without needing to bother you anyway.
Dogs are more than welcome, however the property is only fenced naturally by native bush.
Any season ... our piece of paradise is here for you to enjoy!
Please note this is an original cottage, there is no WIFi, no dishwasher.
There WILL be bees in the bush around the property. They keep to themselves, we have lived here for many years in harmony with the bees. The beekeepers may be working on the hives during your stay, they will not interfere with your holiday but are happy to answer questions.
This is a very special place to us and the only condition is that you respect mother-nature and treat our property with love and care.
Extras: Cleaning (Required, NZ$60.00 per stay); NOTE: Under Kiwi bach tradition you are expected to: Bring your own linen (towels/sheets/tea towels);
