Relaxing getaway

Great property! We enjoyed the screened in porch as it was pretty buggy. We also very much appreciated all the fire word and supplies provided. Would recommend for any family looking for a relaxing, quiet cabin.

Cute Cabin

Cute cabin to stay in. Not very private if you are staying with extended family as only curtains divide the bed and bunk beds.

Super cute cabin

Loved reading about the history of the cabin, water levels, and the work put into making it what it is today. Sunroom, bon fire and walking the beach looking for rocks were some highlights!

Wapsi cabin

What an amazing property! Clean, rustic and located steps from the river. We came down for a baseball tournament and could not if been more perfect for us! Plenty of fishing and swimming took up any down time we had between games. Thank you

Rustic Cabin on the Wapsi River

Exactly as it was described, it's a nice rustic cabin deep in the woods by the river. It's very off the beaten path, which was just perfect for our needs. No wifi, no big TV, spotty internet/phone service, so we just chilled, hiked, enjoyed cooking and each other's company. VRBO owner was a great communicator and the cabin was very well appointed with everything we needed. Pleasant stay!

Short Stay by the Wapsie

We had 8 in our party, we enjoyed the stay. Property was as described. Not a lot of cooking utensils or skillets to make meals with but maybe that is in the description. Crank the AC when you get there, screened in patio is very nice to escape mosquitos.

Great cabin

This was a great property to stay at! The kids enjoyed the river very much and swam a lot! We hung up a sheet between two trees and projected a movie one night. The adults enjoyed the "off grid" - we didn't have cell service or internet access. It was great to unplug.

Wonderful Experience!

I'd give 10 stars if I could! Host was a joy to communicate with and quick to respond. Beds were comfortable with nice bedding and pillows. Kitchen was more than adequate and equipped with everything a person would need. We enjoyed our meals in the screened in porch along with board games in the evening. Kids made good use of the tire swing and teeter totter while the grown ups appreciated the hammock in the shade. The beach was a short walk from the cabin to swim and relax. The kids enjoyed finding seashells and unique river rocks to take home as souvenirs. We had such a wonderful time and plan to return.

Rustic and tranquil

When you want to truly be off the beaten path, this is the right place to go. Be prepared for plenty of dirt/gravel roads and getting back to the basics with nature. You will enjoy the quiet mornings and peaceful river. You can't ask for better neighbors to chat with. All the beds were clean and cozy, and the black out curtains were helpful for wanting to sleep in. Time your showers, as the water heater needs time to heat the water after 2 showers. Bring your own drinking water, as the well water is heavy with minerals. Enjoy some tasty food and great ambiance at the local General Store Pub. The Maquoketa Caves are not too far and worth the exploration!

Had a fun stay, decent place overall

Not a whole lot to say, it's a rustic cabin as the listing says. It's well kept, everything was in place and working. The neighbors were friendly. One thing that was a bit of an issue: the instant we arrived we were swarmed by mosquitos. I had two types of bug spray and a hat with mosquito netting, but ... wow. My son and I wanted to be outside doing stuff, but we had to have constant vigilance to survive the onslaught. My wife basically refused to come outside LOL. She said something about wanting her blood to remain in her body. There is a screened in porch as well, so we ate dinner and played games there for most of the time. Not the fault of the hosts of course, it is what it is. But just be warned =). Two other issues: 1.My son, who is 11 wanted to do smores, but we couldn't find any skewers, not a big deal, we used some sticks. But I could see where others might be like "well don't we need skewers?" 2. There was a container with drinking water available and it was fine for me, but I think others will probably want to bring their own water, the well water is not drinkable, as the host states in their notes.

Best hidden getaway!

The rustic charm and beauty of this property was definitely more than we expected. We were pleasantly surprised at the extent the owners went to , to ensure our stay was comfortable. We didn’t want to leave when it came time! When we were unloading our car last night, we found a couch pillow from the cabin that we accidentally walked off with. I think our 17 year old son scooped it up with the blanket and pillow he brought from home. I feel horrible about this and if you’re the owner of the property and reading this, please shoot me an email of an address we can send the pillow to. We live 5 hours away. We would definitely recommend this property! Just an awesome stay and we hope to be back one day.

Off the grid

Great location for an "off the grid" experience. Big yard to hang out in steps away from the river. Friendly neighbors. We found out if you have Verizon you will get signal at the bottom of the front steps. Couldn't find outlets in the main bedroom, but found extention cords, so that was great. Kids loved the bunk beds and the other bed on the other side of the room where all the kids hung out together. Great screened in porch to stay away from the nightly bugs. Great fireplace. Played volleyball. Kids loved the seesaw and fished daily. Caught baby catfish. We floated down the river with the tubes that were in the shed. Would definitely stay here again if it weren't for the teenage girls being bored without internet. Might have to make a trip with just the boys and dad.

Didn't want to go home

It was such a peaceful place, quiet, perfect distance from the beach and water that our young kids were able to play and we didn't have to worry about them running to the water, but even when we took them to swim the water was perfect for swimming in.. Cabin of course could use a little updating but nothing that made a dent in in fun we had.. We caught fish, we tubed, we found some fun and interesting places near by to eat... Also the shed filled with toys and tunes and anything we needed for fun, was very much appreciated! Already planning a trip for next year!

Beautiful weekend on the Wapsi

My friends and I had a most wonderful weekend-all of the amenities were comfy and kitchen was perfect for cooking. We spent a full day on the sandbar and enjoyed the beautiful surroundings. A little snafu with the shower was solved immediately by Monica and Jim-very kind people. I hope to return again!

Remote Getaway

We enjoyed the location by the river and the kids liked the tire swing, teeter totter and hammock. We appreciated having the tubes there to use. We were unable to get any cell service so we really were able to unplug. Beds were comfortable, bedding and towels were very clean; however, the rest of the cabin could really use a deep cleaning. We were glad we had our SUV as the road to the cabin was interesting at times. We met the neighbors on both sides and they were both very nice. We enjoyed exploring the area!

True Cabin Life

I went to this cabin with my sister's we all live in different states. This cabins was stocked from kitchen supplies to dry wood. They even had tubes that we used to float down the river. The setting was beautiful and quiet and when the neighbors came around they were friendly and great to visit with. We did most of our cooking there . Although for $140 a night some updates would be nice like better beds and some new windows and screens would really improve this place. Would we all go back again if the opportunity arose most definitely. Contact with host was easy and helpful she gave very clear direction how to get into the cabin. We had a blast!!!! Take your own water along.
