About this property

Log Home Near Santa Fe, New Mexico with Million Dollar View

Located 3.67 miles up a dirt road, Cow Creek Road, log home has upper rental space of 2300 sq. ft. of log home with an open floor plan and 800 sq. feet of deck. Deck has a gas grille and patio furniture. You can see three mesas on a clear day. The size of two of the three bedrooms offers the feeling of great space for each person or couple. There is also a small third bedroom with a queen on that respective floor. In addition , there is a loft with a queen and a double futons. Both are comfortable futons. The loft is very popular with children. The upper rental space has two bathrooms. Approximately 2300 sq feet. There is a dining area and a kitchen. Upstairs has an open floor plan . Good size living room. There is one T.V. in the living room upstairs.
The Glorieta Mesa runs directly in front of the windows of the log home. The mesa changes in color as the day progresses and the weather changes. Should you be lucky enough to have a thunderstorm, there is a light show you will always remember. The sunsets and night skies are magnificent. I believe it is one of the most beautiful views in New Mexico.

There is also patio seating on the deck. In June and in Fall , the wind gusts are 50 or 60. Furniture blows around and can hit windows. So, they are to be pulled to protected side of deck. A gas grille is available for fun outdoor dinners. There is wildlife to be seen. Deer, wild turkeys and a few larger species of wildlife may be seen. The larger wildlife is seldom seen but there are some. (Large coyotes, bears, bobcats, mountain lions, some say wolves) . There is a full service kitchen in both the apartment if rented for over flow and also the main upper log home. The apartment is my own private quarters and is seldom rented. The main rental ares is 2300 square feet and has its own entrance. Insulated heavily it allows for complete privacy. Trader Joe's and Whole Foods in Santa Fe offer great supply shopping or the Clines Corners (Eldorado) Exit and up the road to the left has a very large and nice shopping area with a coffee bean store, etc. The drinking water is pure and has a wonderful taste. Beds are very comfortable. The log home has a warm, inviting feel. There is a gate at the entrance which can be locked. Pictures do not do the home justice. Very nicely decorated. Teal large Egyptian wool rug in Master bedroom and very nice huge rug in living room area. This log home is very cozy. This home is at 8200 feet in elevation and does not require air conditioning. Breezes are very good the majority of the time. Of course, there is central heat. This is a big place. And the price is fair. It is in a forest and a wide, well taken care of dirt road leads to the home. Those inquiring need to understand that this is not just one motel room. La Quinta rents one small room for $129.00 per night. The owner must pay for cleaning and amenities therefore the price is more than fair. In the Fall and Winter, there are propane and wood costs. In addition to electric, there is Direct T.V. and HughesNet.
Keywords: 2nd Home Vacation Rental. There is a wide dirt road up to the homes in the area. It is decently maintained by the County. Cars, trucks and SUV’s have made it safely to my home. However, in the Winter, I cannot predict snow so it is better to have all wheel or 4 wheel drive. Cables work as well. Log homes in New Mexico are in the mountains. I am at 8200 feet in elevation; therefore, logically it is an upward climb to reach me. The views are beautiful. It is up to the renters to discern their vechicles’ capablies. As I said this log home is the best of two experiences . It is located in a wilderness atmosphere yet 45 miles from Santa Fe, New Mexico. Not far in my opinion and experience. Takes me 12 minutes to get down the mountain. But, I know the road well. My recommendation is that you arrive here before dark. Because imagination on the forest road can make some people uneasy. In the light, it isn’t scary at all. The road curves and climbs in some places. I live here alone with all that comes with it and I have never been intimidated with the road. Beautiful place and views. It has been very popular with large families. Check weather projections before you come. If snow is coming, your vehicle should handle that. Otherwise and during all other seasons, regular cars have done very well here. I have had Mercedes and Lexus models here. German and Austrian cars are built for the mountains. County maintains the roads. Dirt road is wide and decently maintained. And as I stated before, there are other log homes up here and a few ranches. I have 5 neighbors . Unfortunately , I had to raise my rates recently. Drought in Southwest has depleted my water supply from my pump house. I must now order water usually every time I rent $347 per load. And fuel to operate large log home has significantly increased. Makes me crazy. But , it is just the greed we tolerate with corporate profit motives. Even my cleaner charges more because of her fuel costs.

Beautiful location
The property was absolutely the most beautiful location. The downside is the property had 19 windows but only 6 had screens on them so either you let the bugs in or open just the 6 windows in various rooms. There is NO AC so it got up to 86 degrees in the home every day while we were there for the 6 days. Afternoons were miserable if you were in the home.

Hidden Treasure
This is a gorgeous cabin, set well off the road and surrounded by forest, making it perfect for a peaceful, secluded, mountain getaway. The cabin has all the amenities needed for cooking, entertaining, and relaxing. Nikki was an excellent communicator and the check-in and check-out processes were a breeze. Our group thoroughly enjoyed our stay and we would love to rent it again for future outings.

About the host

My late husband, age 53 died unexpectedly in 2009. We built this log home to be our retirement home. Initially, we were going to build a small log home but this turned out to be 4300 square feet, 3600 sq. ft. in use. The remainder is a shop. It is quite beautiful. In 2012 , I moved to New Mexico permanently. I am a retired university medical center finance department head. I have travelled the world to 50 countries and back to my favorites as many as six times. I am easy going and a live and let live person. I am reclusive. So most do not ever see me. Those who do, say I am colorful and kind . That I am.

I decided to rent the upper 2300 of the log home as a vacation rental and know all who rent it will be taken with the area and all it has to offer. I decided to emphasize that the bottom of the log home is my own personal apartment. If a family is large I will rent it to them. The apartment has its own entrance and the two separate locations are well insulated to afford privacy. It negates the reason for renting if people want me to not stay in my own personal apartment. I am very quiet and respectful of people’s privacy. And 98 percent of people haven’t cared. And actually have texted me asking for information. However, I am often not here . At times I am here for repairs. The views will amaze you. I believe it is one of the most beautiful views in New Mexico.

Why they chose this property

We built this home in this location because it is 45 minutes to Santa Fe, New Mexico but gives an illusion of being secluded. The area is adjacent to a National Park and the views are spectacular.

What makes this property unique

We back up to a National Forest and Pecos, New Mexico is an amazing town with quite a few celebrities living in the town. It even has a medical clinic along with a few restaurants. It is a hikers paradise. And for those who love shopping, eating and art, Santa Fe is just down the road. Once you come down the mountain and spend 15 to minutes driving out from Pecos to the main highway, you are 20 to 25 minutes to Santa Fe. So you have the best of both worlds, you have the feel of privacy and total relaxation and yet have the nearness of a city for many events and great restaurants. Friends of mine have said that they love just being up at the log home reading and taking in the beautiful sunsets and beautiful star filled nights. Quite a few actors and athletes have stayed here. I believe you will like it. I have been renting over eight years now.
