About this property

Garden Cottage on Lake . Rowboat.

Our Squalicum Lake cottage, provides the ideal setting for a romantic 'getaway for two' or perfect accommodations and lodging while touring Western Washington. We're a quick 90 miles from Seattle, 54 miles from Vancouver B.C. and just outside the city limits of Bellingham. The cottage is nestled among cedar and fir trees on tranquil acreage overlooking the lake and has a fully equipped kitchen/living area, bedroom, bathroom, a private porch and an abundance of skylights for stargazing.

Our cottage is for two adults only and the property won an AIA (State Architectural Award) for contemporary design. We also have unsolicited reviews for Squalicum Lake Cottage on major travel sites too. Pls note we have a one week minimum, no children no pets, minimum age of guest is 25. No smoking permitted in cottage.

The living room, with a vaulted beamed ceiling looks out onto Squalicum Lake and Squalicum Mountain. Large windows provide a view for watching the fish jump on the lake or enjoying the birds at the feeders. The cottage is situated in the middle of colorful perennial gardens and during the spring and fall you can see large flocks of migratory birds land on the lake.

The kitchen is fully equipped including a microwave, stove, oven, toaster, coffee maker and refrigerator. Dishes, utensils and pans are provided as well.

A white iron and brass queen sized foam (tempurpedic type) bed...cozy bedroom to snuggle or take that long sought after nap. The guests at Squalicum Lake Cottage come to slow the pace of their daily lives.

All guests are greeted with fresh flowers in the cottage and we share the bounty from our garden when in season. The owners live next door so are available should you have any questions. All art in the cottage is original and one of the owners is an artist.

Eagles and a wide variety of other birds are a common sight as well as deer wandering through the meadow. Should you visit in the summer you might spot a heron or kingfisher looking for a bite to eat in the 26,000-gallon pond right outside your door. Dozens of frogs chorus at evening time, along with soft owl duets often heard after dark.

Squalicum Lake is not for swimming. There is no 'beach.' It is a migratory lake for fowl and a no motor flyfishing lake.

Our guests initial comments are always that the website photos never do the property justice. How does one capture an entire mountain behind a lake?

Relaxing comfortable stay
This little cottage was out of a fairy tale. Remote and relaxing. It is something my husband and I have been looking for a while. Our hosts were above gracious and very knowledgeable about the surrounding areas. I would highly recommend this site to anyone that needed a getaway. Very clean also.

Lovely country escape
We came to visit family and wanted to have a place close to town but with the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the PNW. This cottage is absolutely perfect for what we wanted. We were a quick trip into Bellingham while having relaxing evenings watching the wildlife and enjoying the beautiful scenery. John and Liane were awesome hosts as well. The cottage was perfect and furnished for our needs. We loved it and definitely would recommend it to anyone wanting a lovely getaway!

Peaceful Perfection
After leaving the chaos of the SF Bay Area, we could not have found a more beautiful, peaceful place to decompress. The 'cabin' was modern, updated, affordable, and absolutely spotlessly clean. Everything we could possibly need was availsble for our use - from Q-Tips to pots and pans. We will definitely dtay here again and highly recommend it.

Beautiful setting, wonderful stay!
We loved our stay - the cottage was clean and comfortable! We loved the patio with it's great view of the lake (we did take the rowboat out!) and we'll have fond memories of watching the hummingbirds and other birds as the cool evening breezes picked up and the sun set with a glow. The cottage is quiet and secluded, the hosts nice, and I would highly recommend this spot!

On golden pond…
Beautiful cottage for a couple. Located off road with privacy and quiet spaces. Well appointed for cooking. Comfortable bed. Eagle on the tree in front of the cottage and lovely hosts. Highly recommend this place. So much to do in the Bellingham area. Beautiful drive to Mt. Baker, oysters in Blaine and Chuckanut bay. Fresh fish from Bellingham docks and farmers markets. Lots of good hiking and water sports.

We are retired but stay very busy working on the property gardens.

Why they chose this property

We built our property because we couldn't find another place with this view and solitude.

What makes this property unique

A beautiful landscape with many types of birds. In the summer when our garden is in full swing, you might see 150 lilies and 9 ft tall sunflowers growing amidst vegies and a variety of other flowers and vegetables. We share our produce and fruit grown on our property with our guests when in season. Guests are often greeted with fresh flowers on the table.
We provide a large binder of local activities, maps, restaurant menus for our guests to peruse.
