About this property

Knotty Pine - pet friendly on New River, outdoor fireplace

Knotty Pine is our river front mountain cabin. Enjoy beautiful river views in a quiet natural setting where you can enjoy activities in the slow-moving water, watch the wildlife from the private outdoor fireplace and hot tub. About 5 minute drive to Blue Ridge Parkway and 10 minutes to downtown West Jefferson for shopping and dining. Great hiking trails abound.

Looking for additional space? Consider also booking Touch Of Grey, the home immediately next door!

Main level of house is on same elevation as driveway. Master bedroom is one level down and is accessible from inside or outside. Outdoor fireplace and hot tub are on separate deck close to the river. The entire downstairs is the master suite and bathroom.

Although the main level offers easy access on arrival there are a lot of stairs to access the river, hot tub, backyard and master bedroom. The interior stairwell to the master bedroom is narrow and has low overhead clearance at the bottom of the stairs. You should not plan on using this space if your mobility is limited.

- CANCELLATION POLICY - Bookings canceled 60+ days before arrival will receive a refund of the deposit. Bookings canceled between 31-59 days before arrival will receive a refund of half of the deposit. Bookings canceled within 30 days of arrival are not entitled to a refund unless the reservation dates are rebooked to another guest. All bookings are subject to a $50 cancellation fee.
- All BRMR homes offer well stocked kitchens with all utensils needed to cook meals. There is also a "starter set" of paper products at the house: a roll of toilet paper per bath, several garbage bags, a small vial of dishwashing liquid, a few tablets of dishwasher detergent, some laundry pods, a roll of paper towels, hand soap, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and some makeup remover cloths. There are enough of these items for one night, or maybe two. We do not provide hair dryers. Towels and linens will be provided
- Check in is after 4pm and check out is by 10am
- Pets are welcome for an additional rent of $25/night each.
- Firewood may be added by reaching out to us more than a week in advance. You receive two wrapped bundles and a fire starter for $25/night.
- The neighborhood road is gravel and is on a slope. You should have no trouble driving in standard car if you are familiar with gravel; otherwise, please bring 4WD or AWD. If there is snow or ice on the ground 4 wheel drive would be required. Motorcycles may not travel well on the loose gravel road.
- Knotty Pine is next door to Touch of Grey and they share river access through the new stone steps into the New River, located in front of Knotty Pine.
- The owner of this home uses exterior cameras to monitor the driveway and parking areas. No cameras are aimed at the back deck or interior.
- Must electronically sign an additional Rental Agreement Terms and Conditions and any Neighborhood Rules sent by Host (property manager) or entry information cannot be sent.

Communication after stay
As a fellow property owner I am always hesitant to leave a negative review; however, this was the management company issue. I was communicated with very well prior to my stay and even told the property was available early. However after we checked in we found a broken ice maker which I texted and called about 3 times before someone looked at it 2 days later to tell me it was broken. We just went and bought ice. The hot tub wouldn't get hot which the same guy looked at 2 days later and it appears it may have been having mechanical issues which in my opinion should have been addressed or put out of service and not advertised as being available. The positives are that the cabin is on a beautiful location with lots of wildlife. We saw deer and bald eagles. The downstairs tub served the "hot tub" purpose well enough I guess so it wasn't a total loss. The house has limited seating so lounging to watch the games wasn't the greatest but for a short weekend it worked.

This house was absolutely perfect. We went when there was about 12 inches of snow on the ground and it felt like we were the only people in the neighborhood. It was the perfect getaway. I can’t wait to come back in the spring/summer.

Just okay - consider your group’s needs
The description of this property outlines a lot of its internal quirks, but the photos don’t match up and make it hard to understand how things are set up. For example, the downstairs section is indeed one room, including a toilet that sits off the wall covered by a screen but no door or other privacy. The only truly private room in this home is the upstairs bathroom - even the upstairs bedroom (with twin beds, and does have a door) has a large cut-out in the upper wall. Logistically this house was fine for us as a couple but we wouldn’t stay here again or recommend it for any larger of a group, which makes it pricey for what it is. If i had known this property was managed through a local group I would have booked directly and saved us the VRBO fee. However, the location is great and being right on the river was beautiful, and the kitchen is well stocked for cooking meals.
