About this property

Casa Rio San Juan

This comfortable stucco house is secluded, with beautiful surroundings, across the street from the San Juan River and 10 minutes from Navajo Lake. There is a boat ramp within 200 yards and a path for fishing on the river bank approximately 150 yards away. Mesa Verde and Durango Mountain recreation are a little more than an hour away. Pristine skies for stargazers; for less than it costs for a motel room nearly an hour away, you are right on the river ready to fish early morning, or late evening. Deer and Elk hunting surrounds the house; you have Sun Rooms, Laundry, Kitchen, BBQ Grill, Bathroom and Shower facilities. This house features a large fenced yard for stowing boats. Santa Fe, NM is 3 1/2 hours away.

Great Location
My three friends and I stayed here for 1 week to fish the San Juan. The house is close to the river and you can even just walk down the street to a public fishing area. Our big issue was that the temperatures got down to the low 20s and the furnace did not work. The owner lives out of state and so communication was always slow with them. I spent many evenings in bed and not enjoying the house because I was too cold. The owners sent a repair man out but they did not have an arrangement for him to get into the area where the furnace was. It was locked and he did not have a key. Although we notified the owner of this situation, the repair did not happen until two days before we left. I would have had a few space heaters that would have been an inexpensive fix. I would have gone into Aztec to purchase some, but we were there to fish every day and that would have delayed us. The house was quite large and though the main bathroom was tiny, the master bedroom had a spacious bathroom/shower. The place was clean, but for some reason, the outside trash can was full and we had no place to dump the accumulating trash of a week stay. I have rented a lot of VRBOs and I feel this one was just not well-prepared. There were none of the standard instructions, wifi codes, how to leave the place, or posting of the owner's phone. The house also kind of seemed like a large second hand store as it was packed with desks and bookshelves everywhere. The place worked well and I would rerent.

Fishing retreat
Nice house and the location is great for access to the river. The yard could use some maintenance work and lights for the back porch would be nice. Will be a great place to stay while fishing or playing on the river.
