Nestled in the scenic rolling hills of central Virginia, Camp Shangrila on the Rocky Run creek will not disappoint. The campsite is situated on a beautiful flowing creek. The creek bed is a mix between sand and smaller river stones. Across the creek, you can explore the 200+ acre cattle and horse farm belonging to the Altman family for several generations. The area is graced with an abundance of wildlife, including deer, wild turkeys, fox and the occasional black bear.

It’s very cold at night, and electricity is broken. No shower room, and no rest room. The host showed their shower place, but it’s just outside with net sheets and water for shower is muddy and dirty. The toilet(?) also has only nets and even no water. Kitchen utensils are very old like from 70’s. The grill is dirty but ok to use with foil. And beds are not bad but very cold at night because the stove last only one hour with full firewoods. The tent was fully covered with mould. The host is kind but didn’t help inconvenience from lackage. If the price is 1/3, it can be worth to experience. But around 100$ are too much overcharged.

A great place to unwind!
If you are looking for a peaceful place to unwind away from your everyday grind this is it! Our host was amazing, you have everything you need to camp! We stayed with our 2yr old German Shepherd and she loved it too. Set behind a beautiful pasture with a campfire couldn't be better. Thanks for a great time.

Why they chose this property

If you are seeking a tranquil, relaxing space in a rural setting but close to conveniences this is the farm for you. If you are planning to site-see, visit historic sites, plan to make a day of visiting local vineyards, enjoying Lake Anna, or just want to get away from it all then this is your camp!

What makes this property unique

What we provide at the tent camp: tent, two queen size beds, outdoor dining table & chairs, fire pit, camp cook stove & wash basin area, lanterns and solar lights, inside wood stove for colder weather, car charger outlet for charging your phones, indoor and outdoor games, Adirondack chairs, pots/pans/cooking utensils, paper towels, toilet paper, linens for the beds, spring fed hot water shower and composting toilet, 5 gallons of drinking/cooking water, perk coffee maker & tea pot for hot water, nature friendly soaps.

Firewood is available for the firepit for an additional $25 or you can gather your own if you wish.

What YOU should bring: towels/washcloths, food, drinks, cooler/ice, paper plates & cups if desired, bug repellent. If you decide to bring your own shower products please be sure they are biodegradable.
Please call us when you reach the driveway so we can help you find your way and let us also know what type of vehicle you will be driving. You can reach us at 540-222-0460 and 540-395-4752.
From Old Lawyers Road, turn on the gravel driveway. You will see a pond on your left, continue on the driveway. Drive PAST the small brick home on your left and follow the drive way to the right. You will see signs for the tent camp.
The entire tent camp is away from all of the farm structures and totally private and all for our guests to enjoy. This camp is off the grid with no electricity or running water except for the spring fed shower area.
