About this property

Privacy and Relaxation on the west edge of the Missouri Ozarks

The Legacy Ranch. Looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of modern life? This 1 bedroom Barndominium is for you! With a small private creek and 95 acres to explore you don't have to leave the property to have a great time. Outdoor space includes a patio with solar string lights so you'll still be able to see the crisp night sky...want to grill out? National Park Service style bar b q grill has you covered. We will even throw in the first bag of charcoal!

Farmhouse sleeps two comfortably in a nice full-size bed. The living room area is perfect for a movie night with Netflix or Amazon Prime Movie access. There is a smart TV available for you to watch a variety of programs with multiple free apps. On our listing, we indicated a maximum of four people allowed overnight. If you have children and they would be ok with sleeping in sleeping bags (you provide) - or something similar – the living room would allow space. We want to make sure you understand this listing is for a one-bedroom home.

The kitchen is nicely equipped and should serve you well. The only thing missing is a dishwasher, but hey you're getting away from it all in The Ozarks...remember? Make yourself a cup of coffee and enjoy the large covered porch as you watch the sun come up through the valley...if you are lucky, you will see deer, ducks, bald eagles, owls, coyotes, bobcats, or cows. There is nothing like a peaceful sunrise over the little creek with a small dose of fog...you won't want to leave!

Looking for modern conveniences and nightlife? We are around 30 minutes from Bentonville, Arkansas which has about anything you desire. Looking for small-town charm? 30 minutes in the other direction is Neosho. There are quaint little restaurants, a wonderful bar in a cellar, and a hometown brewpub that will please any beer lover. For basic amenities, groceries, and such we go to Anderson, Mo; which is a 13-minute drive from The Legacy Ranch.

Wish to gamble? There are several Native American Casinos within 30 to 40 minutes, from Indian Sky Casino & Resort to Downstream Casino & Resort to Grand Lake Casino...

Love to fish? Grand Lake is 30 minutes away, and Beaver Lake is about 45 minutes...but don't forget the fishing in local McDonald County on Indian Creek or Elk River. Indian Creek and Elk River are also wonderful places to canoe and kayak. Elk River has multiple commercial outfitters who will gladly assist you in a fun float trip - all within 25 minutes of our Farm!

We want to be clear; this is a wonderful peaceful place for those who are looking to get away, reconnect with a special someone, or just find themselves...so cellular telephone service is limited to nonexistent at the property. If your telephone provider allows Wi-Fi calling, you are most welcome to connect through our high-speed internet on our Star Link connection.

You are welcome to hike anywhere you wish across our 95 acres, along the creek bed, up the hillsides, and across the fields...you can get your exercise in for sure! Arrowheads have been found in the area so you may want to take an afternoon and hunt for an ancient treasure.

PLEASE NOTE: the area is rural and on a well. The water in this area is sulfur water, which depending on weather and time of year can emit a "rotten egg smell" particularly when taking a hot shower. The water is fine and safe, but sulfur water is not for everyone. We will provide a jug of water for coffee or drinking. If you prefer more than "a jug", please plan to bring some drinking water along!

There are surveillance cameras on the property exterior and around the exterior land and barn areas. We do not have any cameras in areas where there would be a reasonable expectation of privacy. We will do all we can to ensure your visit is private.

Definite 5-Star
We have rented many vacation properties, but this is the only one I’ve said, “I could live here!” If you want quiet peaceful surroundings this is the place to be. Steve made sure everything you might need was there. The bed is comfortable and kitchen has everything to cook a good meal. We passed on the huge fire pit as it was pretty windy, but next time for sure! We highly recommend for a totally relaxing get-away

Love Love Love
The location of this property is perfect for travelers like us who enjoy being in a private location. The property was very clean, and quite. The owners were gracious enough to leave us hot dogs for our nephew to cook in the fire pit, but time slipped away and we didn’t get to use it. The bed was extremely comfortable and hearing that from my husband is a BIG deal. I could go on and on about how beautiful the area is but you should see it for yourself. We will stay again!

Why they chose this property

The Douglas Family has owned property in McDonald County, Missouri since the early 1950s. We love the scenery and people of the region. We bought this farm in late 2021. It is named The Legacy Ranch in honor of the family members who came before us. Herbert Douglas, Steve's Granddad, loved to fish the streams, creeks, and rivers of "Mac County". Herbert had a cabin on Elk River for well over half a century. "Granddad" taught Steve to love the river. When we found this farm on Beamon Branch Creek, we knew it was the perfect location to form new memories while honoring the old.

What makes this property unique

The Legacy Ranch is rural. It is 15 minutes from Anderson, Mo., where you will find the nearest grocery store and gas station. The area is secluded and private. If you are looking for solace and relaxation this is the place. Relaxing along the small Ozarks stream is a peaceful way to spend a warm day. The creek is spring fed so the water can be chilly. A hike to the back portion of the property will take you to a hill overlooking the valley. It is always a serene comforting view, but in the Fall, Winter, or early Spring the view of the limestone bluffs, across the way, is a nice sight.
