About this property

Waterfront Home in the Flat River Game Area -- Amazing for birdwatching!

Eco-Tourism in West Michigan! Enjoy 1200' of Private Frontage on minimally populated Grass Lake adjacent to hundreds of acres of State Land. Wildlife abounds on land and in the water. Migratory birds stop to rest awhile in spring and fall. Loons, ducks, cranes and a variety of 'backyard' birds nest nearby and are seen most days throughout the summer on the water and at the feeders. Our resident chipmunk may entertain you with his antics by day, and the deer often come down to the water in the evening. Raccoons, possum and muskrats are also common visitors.

This fully-stocked home with antique decor, table & board games, yard games, firepit area, charcoal BBQ, boats & old-fashioned bicycles encourages you to "un-plug" , retreat, relax and recharge! Although we do provide wireless internet and a smart TV, we hope you won't have the desire to use them.

Weekend getaway
Cute and cozy. The view is great from the house, all you see is the lake, trees and some wildlife. Very quiet, beds are comfy and the host provided everything we needed and then some.

Peaceful and relaxing
Off the beaten path but not far from town, it was very peaceful and relaxing. We caught many Northern Pike from the lake and the home was comfortable and had everything we needed during our visit. Would definitely stay again!

Restored our souls
From the moment we arrived, we felt welcome. Not only was the scenery gorgeous, with wildlife to enjoy, but our host thought of everything we might need to enjoy ourselves and relax. She had items for activities indoors and outdoors, all kitchen utensils and items necessary to prepare meals, and upper and lower decks to enjoy God's creation. After 4 difficult years, by the time we left we felt renewed and refreshed. Our hostess was the best.. efficient and communicative. We're blessed with the experience.

Grass lake house
We had an amazingly relaxing stay at the Grass lake house. We spent alot of time on the water fishing. We caught alot of large black crappies along the lillies pads. Plenty of blue gill and sunfish also. The house was well stocked with everything we needed. Family came to visit and we played games that are provided. We all had a fabulous time. We look forward to staying here again !

Quiet getaway
First and foremost, Sarah was a great host! She was very attentive to detail and the fresh bouquet of flowers and the homemade brownies were the icing on the cake. The property was exactly as described and then some. We wanted a quiet qetaway and that’s exactly what we got. The view from the deck was spectacular and the perfect spot to just sit and unwind. The kayaks, paddle boat and row boat were an added bonus. The house was clean and the beds were so comfy! The kitchen was well stocked with dishes and cookware. We enjoyed the game room several nights. We tried to enjoy the fire pit area the first night, which was so nice with a Solo Stove, but the mosquitos were awful when the sun went down (they weren’t bad during the day at all so we were surprised by this). Just bring some bug spray and you’ll be good to go! We would 100% stay here if/when we make it to Michigan again!

About the host

We love to step away from the stress of modern society and Retreat to Grass Lake. From sunrise to sunset, watching and listening to the waterfowl from the deck and spacious yard provides the feeling of unmatched tranquility. We like to use the paddle boat, bicycles and yard games (croquet, badminton, horseshoes). The deck furniture is very comfortable for just relaxing or reading. We spend evenings around the firepit stargazing, watching the fireflies and listening to the woodland night sounds. If it's raining, we stay in the game-room (playing foosball, ping-pong, air-hockey, & board games) or building a puzzle. The internet is available and we have a smart TV, DVD player, and video library but we seldom use them. We prefer to retreat to the lifestyle we grew up in and just unwind. We always come home feeling refreshed and counting the days until our next stay.

Why they chose this property

It is so peaceful here at Grass Lake. This DNR owned and managed no-wake lake is populated by multiple types of waterfowl. The property is adjacent to the 11,235 acre Flat River State Game Area, available for your use and enjoyment. A parking area leading to trails is just down the road. You will see more wildlife than human life while at the house; in fact, from the deck and 1200' of private water frontage, you can only see one other house. There are several Amish communities nearby offering hand made goods for sale and several small towns within 15 miles providing historic downtown shopping, bike trails, restaurants and area attractions. The bigger cities of Grand Rapids and Big Rapids are about 45 miles away. The kitchen has a full compliment of countertop appliances, cooking utensils & bakeware, two full sets of tableware, a wide variety of beverage glasses and a spice rack. You can also cook over the camp fire or use the BBQ. We even provide paper plates and cups as well as napkins & paper towels, kleenex, garbage bags, and dish soap. There is an extra set of linens (including blankets) for each bed. We provide you with plenty of bath towels, hand towels, wash cloths, dish towels and beach towels in addition to shampoo, conditioner, body wash and hand soap. We are available 24/7 to answer any questions or resolve any concerns you may have during your stay.

What makes this property unique

The natural setting, vintage decor, and provided entertainment set the stage for you to step back to a simpler time and enjoy the best thing in life ..... time interacting with those you love.
