About this property

Lovely old Spanish Farmhouse with private pool & beautiful views to the coast

This charming old farmhouse has been carefully renovated to offer modern day comforts, whilst making the most of its original rustic style. Sitting at the head of its own little valley, with its olive and almond orchard cascading below, the farmhouse is an easy 8 minutes drive from the lovely white mountain village of Competa and just a 25 minute drive from the beaches of the Costa del Sol. Its location offers stunning views of both the coast and the surrounding mountains of the Natural Park.

The space
The farmhouse offers comfortable and relaxing accommodation for 6 people. It is also possible to have a baby/young child in a travel cot in addition. It has its own private swimming pool available exclusively for guests. Inside it has a large kitchen dining room, an air conditioned lounge, three bedrooms, two of which are double and air conditioned and one - formally the stable where the farming family kept working donkeys - which has twin beds that can be put together to form another double. There are two bathrooms, one of which has 'Jack & Jill' doors, so each bedroom has private access to an en-suite bathroom.

Outside, the house is surrounded on all sides by attractive gardens and the land, with its orchard of fig, almond and olive trees, drops away down towards the coast, providing lovely views of the coastline and a private natural space for guests to look out on.

There are two terraces - one which is part covered with a bamboo pergola and which provides shaded space for comfortable outdoor dining for 6 people. Additionally, there is also an area with cushioned sofa to enjoy relaxing with a book or taking a siesta in the sunshine.

The pool terrace gives access to the large 7.5 x 3.5m pool around which are sun beds and parasols, so guests can swim, cool down, sunbathe and enjoy the Spanish summer in a peaceful natural setting.

We fell in love with this Finca (farmhouse with land) when looking for a holiday property for ourselves and our family. It sits at the head of its own little valley with amazing views down to the coast. Sunsets are simply beautiful and it was visiting at that time that convinced us to buy the property. It was pretty neglected when we bought it, so we have spent the last three years renovating it and adding all modern comforts - we hope without disturbing its historic nature and that we have done so in the cultural style of the area. Features in the twin bedroom are from when it was a stable where the donkeys were kept for instance! Now we spend as much time as we can here but want this lovely old building to be accessible to other families and adults to enjoy, when we can't be here ourselves.

Why they chose this property

We have always loved the idea of renovating an old building and this Finca seemed perfect. We knew we could make minor alterations to its structure and refurbish all the key areas, without disturbing its appearance and historic style, to provide a lovely home from home for holiday visitors to enjoy the best of Andalucia!

What makes this property unique

You can stay here and relax and do nothing. Read, sunbathe, swim in the pool, take a nap - whatever you would like to do. The finca is in a very quiet and natural location. Yet the historic white mountain village of Competa is only 8 minutes drive away if you want to soak up some local Spanish culture. With its 24 bars and restaurants, there is a price and a cuisine to suit everyone.

The Finca and the town are surrounded by the Natural Park mountains, with lots of trails for walking, hiking or cycling for all standards of fitness. And if you want to hit the beaches, the Costa del Sol is only 25 minutes away and you can enjoy a variety of beach activities, or simply a sea swim, and read a book lying under a parasol on the sunbeds that are readily available along the coast.

Amongst the many attractions in the area, you can't beat the Alhambra in the city of Granada, which is just an hour and half away, or the shops and marina at Malaga, about an hour's drive to the West. There really is something for everyone in the area.
