About William Caudill
I am 74 years young, and now retired in Hawaii developing my Tropical Orchard. I love it here. I am finally able to have chickens too. Also have two friendly dogs. Mollie and Jack. Occasionally there are wild pigs, which Mollie and Jack chase. On the mainland I worked as the 1st Urban Forester of Pasadena, California for 11 years and another 10 years in Glendale, California as their Urban Forester. I was a Peace corps volunteer in Chile in 1968-70 and the Horticulturist of Raleigh , North Carolina before moving to California in 1978. I am happy to show guests around the orchard and help them with their vacation plans.
William Caudill purchased this Cottage in 2010
Why William Caudill chose Pahoa
I love the primeval area. The people, the relaxed living and the climate where I am able to grow so many things. The cottage is very private but with easy access to and from awesome sites.
What makes this Cottage unique
I enjoy range free eggs and fresh organic fruit.
Check-in: 3:00 pm
smoking permitted on lanai and outside.
Max guests:4 (sleeps up to 4 adults)
Being off grid, no irons, hairdryers, hot plates, or other high wattage plugins are not allowed as this weakens batteries which supply electricity.
Lock cottage and close gate when leaving even for a short time.
If you pick fruit from Orchard be sure to wash it outside before bringing it into the cottage as this will insure that no fire ants enter cottage.

Very private, easy-going place to stay. Great suggestions on where to go & what to check out in the area. We had a great stay!
Thanks. You were great guests.
Great place for relax
This place gives a super chance to feel the jangle. Good location. Black sand beaches nearby. Spacious cottage and lots of privacy. The only reason I put 4 stars is lots of bugs that come to light at night. They do not bite but very annoying when running around kitchen table.
Staying at Rainbow Orchard was like staying in the most wonderful treehouse you could imagine. Light, airy, comfortable, private, full kitchen and bath, beautiful bedroom and a huge deck that overlooks the most beautiful flowers and trees. We hardly noticed it was off grid, nothing was lacking. No cell service but great wi-fi. Bill is a great host and we really enjoyed the orchard tour. The lava flow missed his place but produced sulfur dioxide that defoliated most of his fruit trees last spring. Not a lot of fruit when we were there but trees were all starting to come back and will be producing again soon. And the eggs from his chickens were excellent. Such a relaxing stay, we would definitely stay there again! Thanks Farmer Bill!
You were awesome guests. And you left the cottage super neat and clean. Just wish I could have had more fruit from my Orchard to give you and some honey to take home. Will be glad to get the bee hives back. You are most welcome back anytime.
Mahalo, Farmer Bill
Would come back here for sure! Bill was great had lots of information about the area! The house had all the amenities! Very private and spacious - awesome deck - close to beaches, beautiful sunsets can’t say enough! Loved it!
beautiful jungle home
Was a nice private home in the jungle. My family loved it.
Comfortable cottage in an exotic setting
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Comfortable accommodations and a great host. Close to the ocean, a few beaches close by and the opportunity to experience some local entertainment.
Highly recommended for anyone who wants to "get away from it all" and check out rural Hawaii. WiFi is available but cell phone service is spotty. There is zero light pollution which we found quite pleasant. In all it was a great vacation.
Short drive to lava viewing in Kalapana. And a local , enormous farmers market near Pahoa every Sunday which sells everything, and has many food vendors and entertainment. Also there is a huge night market in Kalapana every Wednesday night with live entertainment, food, and much more. Not to be missed. 8 miles away. There is also an eco retreat called Kalani , 4 miles away, which has activities such as yoga, dance, and cultural activities.
