The Space:
Aloha! The Makani A Kai is an intimate resort in Ma'alaea, Maui with only 24 units, and one of only two complexes at the end of Hauoli Street that have full beach-front access. The beach is a stone's throw from this bright spacious ground level, single-story condo, with lovely views of Sugar Beach, Ma'alaea Bay, and Haleakala volcano.
The condo is centrally located for easy day trips anywhere on the island, and conveniently located near restaurants, shopping, and boating at the Ma'alaea Harbor. The fully-stocked gourmet kitchen, new appliances, and outdoor seaside bbq area make it easy and fun to prepare meals at home.
Pillows, towels, sheets, boogie boards, beach toys, cooler, beach chairs, and umbrella are included. There is a private balcony, saltwater pool, 2 Weber BBQs, and lounge chairs on the spacious lawn running parallel to the beach just steps from your front door. A free on-site parking spot is included as well as plentiful street parking. Split air conditioning and ceiling fans in each room create a cool, tranquil retreat year round. There is a credit card operated shared laundry room steps away on site.
We even have a ukulele and guitar as well as music books for you to unleash your inner musician!
There is a new Sealy Posturepedic King bed in the bedroom and a ultra comfortable King size Restoration Hardware sleeper sofa in the living room with high quality white cotton linens.
Guest Access:
Guests will have access to the entire condo except for 2 small cabinets in the closet and kitchen which are used for storage. The beautifully manicured grounds are open to guests as well as the beachfront pool, beachfront BBQ / dining patio, and lawn chairs.
The Neighborhood:
Maalaea is perfectly centrally located and a wonderful base for exploring the island. Makani A Kai is directly located on a beautiful, relatively undiscovered 3-mile sandy beach, and feels much less touristy and busy compared to Kihei, Wailea, Kaanapali, or Napili. It is reminiscent of how those beaches were 20-30 years ago. The condo is located at the end of a cul-de-sac adjacent to and overlooking a small state park with partial ocean and mountain views. Occasionally locals and travelers camp on the beach as they do on many of the beautiful beaches around Maui. There are several restaurants, markets, and shops just a short walk (10 minutes) or drive (2 minutes) down the road. Maalaea is also home to the Maui Ocean Center aquarium and the harbor where many snorkeling and sunset boat trips depart. This part of Maui has much less light pollution than most people are used to. So the night skies are amazing. Incredible stars on dark nights, moonlit clouds and shining ocean waves on others.
Getting Around:
While off the beaten tourist path, we are very conveniently located. Costco, Whole Foods, Kahului Airport, and Kihei are an easy 15-20 minute drive. Lahaina and Wailea are about 30 minutes away. Kaanapali/Napili about 40. You could happily spend all your time on the beach by the condo, and there is Maui Bus service or Uber available. But Maui has so many wonderful places to explore, that most people opt to rent a car to really experience the beauty and diversity of Maui on their own. One unassigned parking spot is included as well as plentiful street parking.
Other Things to Note:
10.25% TA and 4.5% GE and 3% Maui County tax visibly passed on and included in quote (These taxes are required for all temporary lodging in Hawaii. Most hotels and condominiums do not include these taxes in their rates-- adding them to your bill when you check out. Many also charge extra for parking, resort fees, etc. In contrast, everything is included in our quotes.)
