An Amazing View
Would we stay here again? Yes. The host was very communicative throughout our stay. Great Value.
You are going to be climbing stairs everywhere. Temper your expectations and adapt to the way things are in Izmir. This apartment is on the hill up from the waterfront, so it does require stair climbing; it is Izmir after all! Being in an older section of the city means that you aren't paying touristy prices for high end hotels.
The apartment requires one to climb 60 stairs, but the payoff is the view. Magnificient. The furnishings were fine, and the bed was surprisingly comfortable. Main bedroom has air conditioning as does the kitchen area. Decently equipped.
There are stores located nearby for basic necessities, including a bakery. The Izmir Historic Elevator Building is a 5 minute walk, and surpise! You'll need to descend some stairs to access it. Use it.
I'd recommend taking the free elevator down, and walking towards the water to Mithatpasa Cd. Turn right, take a 10 minute walk and you'll find all sorts of doner, kebab and bakery shops. You can even find fishing gear if that's your forte. Very affordable meals to be found in this area.
The one downside is parking and driving in the narrow streets; it's an "adventure" for sure. The trick is to always look for the next pullout in case you meet someone. Stay calm and it will work out. You cannot be a timid driver. There is an OtoPark about 1km away. It's a good idea to park there and walk to the apartment.
Cheers!
