About Genine Franklin or Paula Franklin
Dad fell in love with the place on a visit there in 2011. I am sure you will love it too. The people are friendly and you will meet lots of Ex-pats while wandering the streets or sitting in an Ocean front restaurant.
Genine Franklin or Paula Franklin purchased this Apartment in 2012
Why Genine Franklin or Paula Franklin chose Salinas
The infrastructure in Ecuador is being upgraded especially the major roads. The beaches in Salinas are clean and the climate is warm but not so much as in the Caribbean. Temperature vary from 75-85 and usually come with a nice ocean breeze.
What makes this Apartment unique
The country is very diverse with sandy beaches and some great surfing in Montanita which is a small town north of Salinas. The uniqueness of the Andes with there spectacular views and the rain forests. The highest mountain is approximately 20,000 foot high with snow at the top. Yes snow at the equator. You can also visit cloud forests in the interior. This small country is possibly the most diverse in the world.

Better places to stay
First, we are really appreciative to the owner for the short notice rental and the info given by the local manager Jaime. The location is also a positive. Lot's to do within walking distance!! That's about where it ends. The place was VERY dirty, floors not swept with someone's long hair in the beds and rooms. areas of dirt and dust throughout. Even the dust pan there hadn't been cleaned in God knows how long. The cabinetry was nasty with food spills on drawers and surfaces. The condo smelled musty with the windows closed. The linens may have been washed but it was hard to tell, especially the master bed, so we had to clean them upon arrival. You couldn't close some windows tight and had to listen to extra noise from the street. If you've never stayed on the malecon you know there's going to be a LOT of noise but having the additional loudness due to the windows from horns honking and music all night was no bueno. The amenities were pretty bad or non-existent, no paper towels, 4 dishes, 3 bowls, no washcloths, 4 total towels, no salt or pepper (that might be nitpicking but we've never seen that), no deadbolt key, super thin very poor quality sheets, hot water always an issue though it does work as noted on other reviews. A family of 4 would have a terrible time with using the very small tank of hot water here. We generally felt dirty all the time given the condition of the place and both thought we arrived more clean than when we left. The unit needs a DEEP cleaning and for the cost of a week's rental it could be updated with a few amenities to make it a good deal but it's not, sorry. This one should be passed on for those with allergies or expect good conditions.
We rented the unit for one month. I will say that Jaime was very helpful. However, the apartment needed a complete cleaning, the bathroom faucets, the shower walls and shower curtain had mold on them. In the kitchen for eating there were only 6 plates and three bowls and nothing else. The cooking pot were several, however, half of them should have been thrown away a long time ago. No one mention that in order to take a hot shower one had to turn on the timer in the closet to warn up the water. It was the smallest water heater I have ever seen, if one was luck you would have about 10 to 12 minutes of hot water for a quick shower. Over all it was not worth the money we paid. I would not recommend this apartment to anyone.
I was very upset when I got this review and I was ready to fire the Maid. But I emailed my manager and wanted his response. Here is what he had to say:
"What he says is mold is actually calcification because the water here is hard. I clean the bathrooms periodically with acid. That's the only thing that would work but it affects the metal faucets and they get even more stuff that looks like mold and is hard to remove. Eventually I'll have to replace some faucets. I guess I'll have to replace the shower curtains but the same, mineral residue from water. If you want I can buy new pots. They are barely one year old. I won't buy teflon non stick this time because if the guests don't use a wood or plastic spatula they get scratched and peel off.
Not even Americans and Canadians have complained about what he is complaining. The apartment is very nice and other guests have no problem with waiting for the water to warm up for a shower."
I will l have my Manager purchase more Plates and bowls as some long term guests eat all their meals in the apartment. But the water heater is brand new and I would think that a 10-12 minute shower is not a quick shower. But an internet search found anywhere from 7-20 minutes. Really? 20 minutes. Anyway I will look at purchasing a larger unit in the future if we get more complaints but we have rented to quite a few people and this was the first time anyone mentioned it.
What burns my &^* is that I bent over backwards to accommodate this person. He did not want to pay a deposit. He did not want to send the payment to me. So I let him make the payment to my Manager when he arrived in Salinas trusting that he didn't cancel. Grrr. Lesson learned.
Great Value. Right in town and close to everything
Great place. Right in town and across the street is the beach. Many great restaurants within a block....even a BBQ place!!
Can be a little noises at nights, but overall, a great place to stay.
We get what we pay for...
I stayed here with two little grand-boys in January this year, can't remember exact dates. Basic, but comfortable furnishings. Several light bulbs of the pendant lights in the kitchen were burned out. Fridge and stove basic...and rusting...fridge leaking fluid. No balcony. A/C in living room and master bedroom NOT working efficiently or effectively. A/C in second bedroom excellent, so we all slept in there...cramped. This unit definitely needs upgrading. Owner lives in Canada. Very noisy, not at all the owner's responsibility, as this unit is central to the malecon; will look for a quieter place next time I visit the coast. Better values can be found in Salinas.
These were special bulbs and the government did away with filament bulbs so there were no replacements available. However since then my manager did find a substitution and they are all working now. Yes the Stove and Fridge are basic but the fluid was just condensation that happens more at that time of year. It only has to be emptied more often. My manager is aware of it and will check on it more often. The air conditioners have since been repaired. I have owned these 2 units for 2 years now and have done many upgrades since buying it. New furniture for the living room and patio on the larger unit. Recovered the sofa set in the apartment, new blinds on all the windows and 15 new limited edition prints on the walls. Also a new BarBQ.
Yes it is noisy on the weekends as it is on the Malecon but many of my guests love this as it is part of the ambiance of staying in this area.
As for better value I wonder what this person is looking for. She got 2 bedrooms at $30 per bedroom and throw in a kitchen and living room. Wifi and laundry. She could stay at a nearby hotel for the same price but have to share a bathroom and no wifi or laundry.
Great location,Clean, Nice views(beach and sunset)
Thanks Paul for renting me your apartment My family and I had an incredible time in Salinas.
the location of the apartment is excellent it is a few blocks away from the Salinas yatch Club and there are many restaurants around to eat. My mom was so happy that the supermarket was not even one block away from the apartment. The front desk security from the building were polite and helpful and they were always aware from the people that walk in and out of the building.
The apartment was clean ,spacious and comfortable.(bathrooms clean and the bed's mattress were very comfy i felt i was in my own bed)
The apartmenet have windows all over so i had a nice view one from the beach and another one from the sunset. The view that we had from the sunset was spectacular.
Jaime was nice and helpful everytime we need something he make sure we got it right away.
The location is great from there we hired a person to drive us to different beaches such as Ballenita, Ayangue, Montanita and Olon.
I had an incredible time and i would rent this apartment again.
