About this property

Luxe Modern Cabin outside Asheville with Glamping

The serene road through Pisgah National Forest begins the good, slow work of calming your soul as you wend the way to Restoration Red. Sheltered in the wooded shadow of the Blue Ridge Mountains, this brand new modern retreat has been carefully curated as a lofty, luxury escape. Our grounded, gracious home is tucked away from it all with the forest at the doorstep but also just minutes from the Appalachian art mecca of Black Mountain and the bustling bucket-list city of Asheville. A sanctuary!

The space
Restoration Red is our family's legacy property, lovingly crafted to be enjoyed for generations as a tangible expression of an unseen reality--that restoration is possible. Like coming across a bright red torii gate in Japan, the first sight of Red's siding signals the transition from ordinary to sacred space. Buoyed up on stilts, come spend your days up among the leaves, bathed in sunlight streaming through the huge windows onto the grand gathering table, the lovely furniture, the cosy beds. At night, rediscover dark with only the stars and moon as your lanterns over the sprawling deck, the fire circle, and the acres of wild space that begin literally at our front door. Opt for a tech-free holiday and stretch and breathe in our dedicated Movement and Meditation space. Rediscover innocence in what our youngest describes as “glorious camping”—our Glamping (GLAMorous camPING) yurt that offers an extension of deep comfort into our lovely, dark, and deep woods. Go old-school and roll out our A/V library cart for some entertainment. Settle in to our dedicated work space with city-fast Wi-Fi. Unearth classic vinyl tunes on our turntable. Any way you take it, R&R will be medicine for what ails you, and we feel sure you will drive away more integrated for having spent time in our Appalachian Refuge. The cicadas still sing here. Lightening bugs still float and glow and mystify. The sky is full of pinprick stars. The forest beckons. Come away!

Guest access
The whole home and all that surrounds it is yours to live and move and fill with memories. Our home is the last on the road, so step outside and head up the mountain into a woodland wonderland full of possibility for exploration. Our kids swing from ancient vines, uncover toadstools, crack open hickory nuts, forage for blackberries. What new wonders will you and yours discover discover? We lay out on the soft deck furniture and tally shooting stars. What will you keep record of? We play games before the embers of a radiant fire. What laughter will untether old wounds and make space for light joy in your family? And don’t get us started on our precious bell tent. That is a whole other kingdom among the rhododendron.

Restoration Red is built in Jack's Mountain Preserve--once a 9-hole golf course, but now a nature preserve, which means if you step outside and walk down the mountain you also have access to the old green as a cultivated space with our community garden, little sitting spaces, and so many landscapes that call you inward even as they draw you outward. There is space for you and yours at R&R. We can’t wait for you to get here!

Other things to note
Old Fort is a little gem of a mountain town. With 815 residents, it feels like a return to a simpler time and an escape from the pollution of noise and light and traffic that dominates the better part of our lives. You will regret not visiting GoGo's Cinnamon Rolls or perusing treasures at Blue Periwinkle or eating and drinking creekside at Hillman's Brewery, and you will be genuinely thralled to the people and offerings of this fabulous town.

AND, Old Fort is also only 13 minutes from Black Mountain and 28 minutes from Asheville! Asheville needs no introduction for most people. This town that is called "The Paris of the South" has enough world-class food and music and entertainment and tourist-worthy sites to fill your vacations for years to come.
Asheville feels like a perfect blend of the sophistication of the East Coast with the charm of the South and a splash of Bohemian magic.
Black Mountain is quickly becoming just as eminent. Awarded as the "Prettiest Small Town Vacation in America" by TripAdvisor and named one of the best small towns in the South by Southern Living, it has more charm and class and cool in its pinky finger than most towns dream of having in their entire borders.

Our point? Restoration Red makes it all possible. Have your cake and eat it too. Take the calm of Old Fort and the bustle the nearby hot spots and make of it all a truly epic holiday!

We live in Southern California by way of Colorado and Indiana. We love making space for people to encounter the love of their Creator. We see hosting as giving us the opportunity to make sacred space for others to be restored.

Why they chose this property

Restoration Red is built in Jack's Mountain Preserve--once a 9-hole golf course, but now a nature preserve. If you step outside and walk down the mountain you encounter the old golf green with open pastures, a community garden, little sitting spaces, and so many landscapes that call you inward even as they draw you outward. If you step outside and walk up the mountain, the road ends at our home and folds seamlessly into a nature trail that takes you into the temperate rainforest of North Carolina! "The Preserve" (as locals call it) is in the midst of the Blue Ridge Mountains with scenes so beautiful they catch your breath. We love that it feels like you are tucked away in the absolute wilds of the mountains, but you are only 8 minutes from Old Fort and only 28 minutes from Asheville.

What makes this property unique

Restoration Red is a brand new home curated with your luxury in mind AND it is also a mountain getaway with a glamping bell tent and access to endless trails and wild space. Our property gives you the ability to enjoy the culture of Asheville AND also retire into the solitude of the mountains. You can pamper yourself in our home AND rough it in our bell tent. We give you the rare delight of having your cake and eating it too!
