About this property

Quiet Retreat Minutes from Black Sands and Volcanos

This is a quiet retreat on South Point at the top of Discovery Harbour, where the weather is not too hot or cold year round. We now have wi-fi internet throughout the house, but no television. We do have good signal for most cell phone plans. But please feel free to disconnect from the rest of the world and enjoy all the island has to offer. The coffeemaker has a builtin grinder for whole beans, so enjoy a cup of local coffee on the lanai.
Volcano National Park is 30 minutes away. Punaluu Black Sand Beach is 10 minutes away, and the Punaluu golf course is close to the beach.
Naalehu, the southernmost town in the U.S., is 2 miles away and offers a good farmer's market on Wdenesdays. The bakery is worth the trip, and we reccomend the Hana Hau Restatraunt as well.
Whittington Park offers great oceanside picnicking and tidal pools to explore. South Point is beautiful with the sea caves and cliff divers, and Green Sands is worth the trip.

The house has 2 queen beds and 2 twin beds. There is a TV and DVD player in the living room and master bedroom. There is a Redbox location in Ocean View, 10 minutes down the road.

Everything you could need
We enjoyed our stay. Having a full house was great. Everything we could need was there and then some. It’s a big island so lots of driving if you want to see it all.

Great stay
We had a wonderful stay at this location! If you are an early riser it is perfect for you. No alarm clock needed, the rooster and chickens work perfect. The house was plenty stocked with items needed, games and books. Please go down into Naalehu for coffee at Honua's coffee house! Close to black and green sand beaches. This house is the perfect location between Hilo and Kona if you plan to split your time.

About the host

We fell in love with Hawaii when we went on a second honeymoon. South Point is quiet and rural, just the way we like it. We live about an hour outside of Chicago, and enjoy some of the amenities that a big city has to offer, but prefer a more quiet life, at home and on vacation. We enjoy traveling with our girls, and as a family like to explore God's creation. Living on the Great Lakes made us look for water, and we enjoy the ocean and all it has to offer.

Why they chose this property

We chose South Point for its quiet rural setting and proximity to the National Park. We enjoy hiking and kayaking, and sitting on the shore listening to the ocean. We also like the tradewinds and cooler temperatures at night.

What makes this property unique

The local coffee is great. We love the access to Farmers' Markets and fruit stands. Volcano Village and Naalehu are quiet towns with a unique Island character that we appreciate. The fact that we're halfway between Hilo and Kona give us the advantage of both sides of the island to explore.
