About this property

Heritage cottage set in an exceptional acre and a half garden. One of a kind.

The oldest heritage structure on 10 Mile Point, Sunrise Garden Cottage, circa 1908 has been restored with care and attention to its history and reborn as a romantic mews cottage for two. Behind the shiny, bright red door is a large, light-filled sitting room with formal dining table and corner kitchenette, a 3 piece bathroom with vintage ball and claw foot bathtub and a staircase to a large loft. Furnishings are a mix of Canadian and European antiques, modern lighting and original artwork. Warmth comes from electric baseboard heaters plus a gas fireplace with driftwood mantel. The kitchenette has , a convection oven, Jennaire cooktop, small under-counter fridge and stainless steel sink, (no dish washer). Appliances, dishes, cutlery, utensils.
With Downton Abbey charm, there is a proper silver tea service, ironed napkins,
crystal goblets and glasses, a full set of English crockery and place-mats. Tucked under the stairs is a mini Maytag and a drying rack for outside. In the sitting area there are games, books, playing cards, a television and wifi. Floral arrangements are picked from the garden in season. The dining table (with leaves) can seat 6 . Off the sitting room is a spotless full bathroom - tub with shower attached, sink, WC, hair dryer, lotions, potions, white towels and little luxuries to pamper the most discriminating of guests. Upstairs in the former hayloft there is an immaculate 2 piece WC and a large and relaxing blue and white bedroom with fitted carpet, a comfortable King sized bed , duvet, six pillows, good reading lights and a screened window behind the bed that opens for fresh air. (The King-sized bed can be separated into two twins).
Facing east, you can catch a glimpse of Smuggler's Cove , a launching site for illegal rum-running during Prohibition (1930's) and on a clear day, Mount Baker in Washington State. Outside the glass door, is a rambling English-style garden hidden by a giant laurel hedge with a terrace, table and chairs, lounging chairs, outdoor kitchen counter with Weber BBQ potted herbs BBQ utensils. Nearby is a fenced vegetable garden and greenhouse. Guests can wander through the seaside garden which has unforgettable views across the Salish Sea. Off-street parking is by the bright red front door. Close by, a vine-covered garden shed can be used for bicycles and paddle boards which can be rented in Cadboro Bay Village. Through a Lych Gate lies the "Meditation Garden" with a golden bird bath in the centre of a flower/vegetable circle. Sunrise Cottage is the ideal retreat for artists, writers, birders, lovers- all who seek solitude in a garden by the sea. There is resident Jack Russel terrier so we do not accept other pets. Our non-smoking (of any kind) cottage lets for one week minimum all summer and the changeover day is Friday (cleaners and gardeners) . During the winter, by the month (with cleaning service included). Please contact owner via VRBO for more details.

Incredible view
The best part of Sunrise Cottaea is the change to watch Haro Strait with Oak Bay to the Right, Mt. Baker straight ahead, and the San Juan Islands to the left. The cottage itself is very comfortable - and welcoming, as are Mary and Pepper. A delightful place to spend two weeks!
