About Sue Gordon & Jeannine Gauthier
Maison Juliette is owned by two California couples: Eric and Jeannine and their good friends, Ian and Sue. Eric grew up in Paris and always dreamed of owning a second home in the south of France. His wife Jeannine was easily convinced of the wisdom of this idea :-), and their enthusiasm soon infected their close friends, Sue & Ian.
Sue Gordon & Jeannine Gauthier purchased this House in 2008
Why Sue Gordon & Jeannine Gauthier chose Carcassonne
We wanted a vacation home in the center of a small city - walking distance shops, restaurants and tourist sights - so we could relax and experience the European pedestrian-centered lifestyle, and our teenagers could be independent but still safe. Carcassonne is friendly city with about 50,000 residents. The Cite is the largest restored castle in all of Europe, attracting three million visitors each year. Carcassonne is far enough south that the weather is temperate all year. The beach is only a 45-minute drive away - unless you count the lake, which the locals call 'Carcassonne Beach' :-).
What makes this House unique
Walk to everywhere! And if you really want a rental car, there's plenty of free on-street parking directly in front of the house.
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
Wonderful Heritage home in excellent location for visiting Carcassonne and area
This home is a beautifully preserved mansion with all of the traditional French details of wooden floors, high ceilings, gigantically high doors and blue shutters, a fabulous courtyard for morning coffee, outdoor meals and stargazing coupled with modern conveniences. Communication was excellent with the owners and check in was easy and welcoming. Carcassonne castle was a 30 minute walk along the river and over the ancient pedestrian bridge and up the hill or you can drive in about 5 minutes. The walk to the town square and shops and restaurants is 10 to 15 minutes. We flew into Barcelona for a few ways and then made the 4 hour drive to Carcassonne. My cousins flew into Carcassonne airport: a 10 minute drive from the house or a shuttle to the train station and a 10 minute walk. We thoroughly enjoyed our authentic French holiday!
We've very happy that Gillian and her group had such a wonderful holiday. Many of our guests find that they don't use a rental car much, because castle and downtown areas are both within walking distance.
Gillian, we hope to welcome you back again some day.
Excellent location and charming updated house
Smooth and efficient check in. Excellent visitor manual relating to the home and attractions.
To say Maison Juliette is charming is an understatement; it’s truly magical!! A short walk from the train station (even with heavy bags) made it perfectly situated in the beautiful town of Carcassonne. A 20 minute walk to the historic castle, 10 minute walk to the farmers’ market (twice a week), bike riding along the river and many excellent restaurants, bars and cafés to choose from allow easy access to any place in the city.
The accommodations at Mason Juliette were luxurious to say the least! The rooms are decorated beautifully with the charming elegance of days gone by in the south of France. The attention to detail made us feel extremely comfortable and relaxed. Soft, plush robes for each guest in every bedroom, an abundance of beautiful duvets, wi-fi with stereo Bluetooth and updated amenities made us wish we could stay all summer!
As the days turned warmer, it was wonderful to use the second kitchen, sit and dine outside amongst the stunning garden and patio.
The chateau holds a special place in our hearts and hopefully we will return soon.

Thank you for your kind words, Kim. We hope to welcome you back to Maison Juliette in the future!
Property OK, position good, parking can be an issue. However clenlenes is not so good, only half of crockery clean due to the dishwasher filter being blocked ,and for sometime as thare was abad odur from the appliance. Rooms were only partially dusted. Outside , side patio was partially covered with algie which made it sliperey, it also needed sweeping as did the rear patio.
In 10 years of renting Maison Juliette, we have received sixty-six 5-star reviews, seven 4-star reviews, and just this one 3-star review. I am sorry that we did not meet all the expectations of our recent guest.
I visited the house myself just one week later, without notifying our property manager in advance, to check on things. I found the crockery clean, and the dishwasher was working well, with no sour smell. We power-wash the patio every March, but it has been a rainy spring, and a bit of moss has collected again, so I will power-wash it a second time. We always request guests to notify us of small things that aren't quite right or would have made their stay more enjoyable - I wish this guest had let us know while they were here, and we would have addressed any issues right away.
To future guests - I encourage you to read more reviews before you make a decision about whether or not Maison Juliette is right for your French holiday.
Excellent Property, Great Location
What a perfectly configured house for a big family or group of friends. The common areas downstairs are roomy - with an especially excellent kitchen and local market days - and the bedrooms, bathrooms and toilets are well configured and private. Location is great for walking around town or up to La Cite, and easy to get out of town for day trips.
Thanks, Mark - we're glad you enjoyed your stay. You're welcome here any time!
Oooooooo La Oui! Enchanting!
Carcassonne is the ultimate French experience and no small part of this fabulous holiday was the accomodations. Maison Juliette is a stately manor estate that offers the rare combination old world charm and current day convenience. I felt like I had both stepped out of time into the magical place of a historic storybook and sophisticated convenience. The home is located perfectly between downtown and the cite and walking to every amenity is easy. I would not have changed a single thing about this delightful, happy, warm, oh so enchanting property.
Thank you for your kind words, Karla. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay at Maison Juliette!

Maison Juliette is situated in the heart of Carcassonne, midway between the medieval walled Cité and the Bastide St. Louis, Carcassonne's commercial center. No car is required - enjoy a different kind of holiday in the centre of a lively city.
• The riverbank, with its beautiful walking paths offering views of the Cité is only 100m from the house.
• Numerous restaurants and bakeries are within a 500m walk. An internet cafe is within 300m; the post office is 400m, and several ATMs are within 500m.
• The Canal du Midi, which runs from the Mediterranean to the Atlantic, is also just 500m from Maison Juliette.
• There's a small swimming lake (Lac de la Cavayère) just 6 km, with lifeguard-protected swimming area, picnic tables, volleyball courts and zip lines.
• Most popular ways to get to Carcassonne:
1) Fly into Carcassonne airport on RyanAir (UK's budget airline) from Brussels, London/Stanstead and many other UK cities.
2) Fly into Toulouse and take a 1-hour train to Carcassonne, or simply rent a car and drive. The Carcassonne train station is 700m from the house. If you arrive by train with only a small rolling bag, you can easily walk to the house, or catch one of the taxis that line the street in front of the train station.
3) Fly into Barcelona and take a 3-hr train (or drive) to Carcassonne.
4) Fly into Paris, stay a few days to see that beautiful city, and take the 5-hr TGV (high-speed train) to Carcassonne.
5) Combine strategies 2 and 4 - you can often fly into Paris and out of Toulouse (or vice-versa) for about the same cost as a round-trip. Then just take the TGV one-way to/from Paris.
