About this property

Townhouse in Historic Downtown Cumberland

Located just two blocks from historic Downtown Cumberland, this townhouse is the perfect getaway from the city. It's also a 10 min walk to the C&O Canal bike trail & Western Maryland Scenic Railroad.

The Home

The house was built in 1915 (we celebrated it’s 100 birthday last year!) and is a registered historic home. Recently renovated, it maintains its historic charm while incorporating the modern conveniences of today. The home has bed space for up to 7 adults (1 Queen, 1 Full, and a Twin/Full bunk bed) and a fully functional kitchen.

In and around Cumberland…

 Find a hidden gem at the Queen City Flea Market
 Visit the Alleghany Museum (a small but fun museum right downtown)
 Check the Cumberland events calendar for farmer’s markets, free concerts, outdoor movies, and more (
 Go on a bike ride on the Great Allegheny Passage and C&O Canal trails (bike rentals at Canal Place)
 Take a ride on the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad (visit the old train station and take a ride on the scenic railroad to Frostburg)
 Grab a bite to each along the canal at the Crabby Pig, go for a classy dinner at Ristorante Ottaviani, or join the locals at the Baltimore Street Grill all within walking distance. Just 3 miles down the road is Puccini’s, another great Italian place.
 Want dessert? Queen City Creamery’s homemade frozen custard and European Desserts at canal place is a must.
 Grab some fresh produce at the Fruit Bowl

Nearby day trips…

 Swimming, canoeing, mountain biking, and more at Rocky Gap State Park
 Boating on the lake, antique shops, and great dining (we recommend the Cornucopia Café) at Deep Creek Lake
 Skiing, mountain biking, alpine slide, and ropes course at the Wisp Resort
 Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater
 Whitewater rafting, hiking, biking, and rock climbing at Ohiopyle State Park
 Cross-country skiing (winter) and hiking, fishing, and swimming (summer) at New Germany State Park

Good location with much to see/do close by.

The property was as described and the owners communicated quickly. It's an older home that has been renovated, yet keeps the original charm. I enjoyed looking at the older architecture. Most everything in town is within walking distance. If you park around back, you may want a car with some clearance. We enjoyed our stay!

T-Day Stay

Adequate. A little unclear on the 'how to operate' of the house...information on site is out of date. Owner cleared it up quickly, but if instructions had been clear it would not have been necessary to chase down the information.

Nice house, very walkable

The house is a little bare-bones, but has everything you need. There is no hot tub, contrary to the listing, but I wasn’t expecting one from the pictures. The house was warm and cozy, and a short walk to all of the best restaurants and shops in Cumberland. We had a blast, and our hosts were great. Would definitely stay again.

Great townhome in heart of historic downtown

Property was perfect for us - great space with historic charm, close walking distance to Canal St and C&O trails and center of historic district in town. Easy to drive to many parks and overlooks, biking and hiking.

Clean and great location

We had a great stay. The house had everything you’ll need. The nights are loud as this is a townhome and the neighbors were playing really loud music. However, we had sound machines on for our kids and were able to sleep. Will definitely return as the location to the historic district/C&O canal and short drive to Rock Gap make it worth it.

Staying in Cumberland

There was not as much to do locally as we had hoped. The house was an upgraded historical property with beautiful hardwood floors throughout. The down fall was that the bathroom door didn’t shut properly or lock. A small push opened it easily.

Great for Cyclists

Shared this property with two friends while passing through on the GAP/C&O canal trail. Communication with the owner was very good. House was set up well for cyclists; very convenient to trails and downtown restaurants, cool AC, functional washer/dryer, comfortable beds, indoor bike storage. Split three ways it was a real bargain compared to local hotels and met all our needs .

Great time

We were in town for the Hooley Pub Crawl and since there were 3 couples, we decided to rent a house. I am so glad we rented this house, we really enjoyed our time here. We spent much more time at the house than we did going out to the pubs. I would recommend this house if you are going to the Cumberland area. We will stay here again when we are in the area.

Well maintained, clean easy to be in

Well maintained older home, plenty of room, clean. Very few lamps which limits cozy reading spaces but overhead lighting is plentiful. Easy in and out always felt safe and secure. Beautiful old churches and buildings but did not find an area of cute shops as we had hoped. Lots of outdoors activities and the surrounding area is absolutely beautiful for drives in the country. Overall pleasant experience

Great hideaway in Cumberland

The boys and I started the C&O Canal ride from Cumberland and found this house for the night before. The house was tidy, clean, and had all the mod cons. Being able to store our bikes in the house was great, and getting in and out easy. The close proximity to town made for easy trips for dinner and breakfast. A real bonus was the hot tub out back, which we enjoyed.

A well stocked , clean place to land

We only stayed for one night on our way to the east coast. The rental is a townhouse floor plan on the right-half of the façade in the picture. Inside, it's a good, well-maintained, renovation with high ceilings. The rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable. We found everything we needed in the kitchen (we cook) . The owner's instructions and requirements were very clear and convenient. The nearby Chesapeake & Ohio Canal towpath is a rewarding place for birding. We would not hesitate to stay in this little city pied-a-terre again.

Clean, Cozy & a short walk to restaurants & shops

As soon as we walked in the home, it felt very welcoming. The house has all of the comforts of home and it was easy to get settled in. Heidi & Matt were very helpful, providing us with all of the information we needed to enjoy our stay. The bed in the Master bedroom was very comfy, and this home could easily accommodate a family, with a total of 5 beds!! Lots of great restaurants nearby. And a lovely pedestrian only shopping street to wander and explore. So many trails in the area, including the canal trail. We spent a day visiting the Frank Lloyd Wright homes in nearby Mill Run (definitely worth the drive, be sure to make reservations). We tried the frozen custard at the Queen City Creamery, the food was really good at the Crabby Pig (next to the Canal), and Mark's place was great for breakfast (I'm sure all of Heidi & Matt's recommendations would be fabulous :) This is a great spot to stay, especially for outdoor lovers who want to enjoy time outside and leave the car behind to walk to dinner. Thanks!

Awesome location, comfortable digs, great owners

First off, this is a great location. I love Cumberland's downtown. There are few places that feel quite like it. The house itself has been left with many of its original historic parts, but has been upgraded where necessary for comfort. The layout is spacious, and could easily suit a family of 6 or more. I only stayed one night, but it seemed to be well stocked with everything you need for a longer stay. In communicating with Matt and Heidi, they were quick to respond. They are genuinely good people and very friendly. My worry with staying at a house is always cleanliness (same at a hotel, though), but this house was clean and tidy. I hope to be able to return again!
