About Shanti and Mark
We are Mark and Shanti, a couple from Vancouver Island that moved to Bamfield (just across Barkley Sound) in 2006, Victoria in 2015, and now Ucluelet in 2017. We are absolutely in love with this special corner of the world. We are both wildlife biologists specializing in birds, and we have spent our careers working everywhere from Baja to Antarctica as researchers. Our real passion is the Canadian High Arctic, where we have been returning every year since 2004. If you want to learn about our research, check out http://www.arcticgull.org! When we aren't running around chasing birds, we (along with our two young kids) enjoy surfing, boating, and eating fresh seafood back on the coast. We are now co-running the Raincoast Education Society, a non-profit charity in Tofino. We have lots of great programs and events for visitors throughout the year if you are interested! www.raincoasteducation.org
Shanti and Mark purchased this condo in 2017
Why Shanti and Mark chose Ucluelet
Shanti first came to Ucluelet in 2005 to work as a fisheries observer, and Mark not long after in search of birds....We eventually settled down in Bamfield, but we'd pop over to Ukee in our little boat as often as we could, and invariably tie up at the government dock, right in front of Whiskey Landing. Watching Whiskey Landing get built over the years, little did we think we'd ever have the chance to own a part of this incredible building! Whiskey Landing is a special place because it really represents the vision of the fellow who built it. No expense was spared, and no compromise was made, and the building is truly a testament to old-school west-coast craftsmanship. We are so excited to be able to share this incredible spot with guests from all around the world!
What makes this condo unique
The Anchorage at Whiskey Landing is all about the little details; the hand-carved ravens on the outside beams (one of them with a Japanese glass fishing float in its bill!); the unfinished tree trunk post in the second bedroom, the local art....But these are just details. The very best features are ones that we can't really take any credit for - like the eagles perching in the cedars just a few meters away, the sealions cavorting in the inlet, the boats coming and going from the offshore fishing grounds....It's about being in a place where you can really feel and experience the true west coast lifestyle!
