About this property

Historic Belfield Beach Estate and cottage on Long Bay Beach-Close to Everything

Belfield Estate is a 230+ year old Bermuda stone and Cedar framed historic remodelled house and cottage which is famous for the discovery of The Belfield Rose, which had been missing for years was found in 1956. It sits next to Long Bay beach, and park, so a 30 sec walk across the lane past a playground will put you on the beach. Nature reserves on both sides with more than two acres of property with banana and fruit trees, this historic bermuda property is a taste of old Bermuda. Nine beaches, a 10 min walk with many small beaches is ideal for a private day and beach picnic with few people around. Located on Daniels head, the water is shallow and clear and ideal place to spend the day. Grocery and liqour stores are a 2 min walk, various take out restaurants also in the same area. Bus and fgerry stops all very close by so you can get to south shore beaches and Hamilton easily. Walking or jogging the railway trail up to Fort Scaur with 360 views of the island is breathtaking, and the smallest draw bridge in the world, Somerset bridge just beyond that. Historic Dockyard and all its restaurants, shops and ferries is a westerly walk, or jog and also home to the famous Frog & Onion Pub in the old stone built fort of 1860, and its great for lunch or dinner. So lots to do and places to go and see, or you can just relax and watch the Turquois sea from the porch.

Destination Christmas
My sisters and I were looking for a unique place to spend christmas and we chose Bermuda rather randomly. Having never been there, we did not know what to expect. Ben answered all of our questions before and during our trip. The house was quaint, cozy and absolutely perfect for us. We would highly recommend this property and hope to be able to stay again in the future.

Best Times Bermuda
The host greeted us and stopped by on occasion to make sure all was well. The house was rustic and comfortable with all the amenities. Located close to a food mart and bus stop. It was within walking distance to restaurants and water sports. Our family had a great time and plan to return.

Lovely home and plenty of space.
It was perfect for our family of 9. The beach was perfect for us to walk to. We enjoyed the nature sanctuary. We were just not prepared for the very noisy frogs at night. The windows in the guest house are not very strong and did not block the sound as well as the main house. We would have loved sound proof windows but we now realize people of Bermuda just enjoy the music of those frogs. Ben was very nice to work with. Thank you.

60th Anniversary Celebration
We had a great visit & stay at Belfield. Ben couldn’t have been more responsive, friendly & helpful. The house is historic, quaint & cozy. It is well equipped in all ways from towels & linens to the kitchen. Lots of space to enjoy outside from the morning coffee patio to the evening sitting area. Cottage is private and good if someone needs to do some work. Easy walk to well appointed grocery store. Beaches are also walkable and nice. Bus stops & railway trail are very close by. Overall a beautiful property.

Brief pre holiday break
Our family wanted a short mini vacation before the holidays. Since there was 2 young children, the estate worked well for us. Thanks to the owner recommendations for a driver and chef the time was well spent.

Why they chose this property

I love historic houses on Big properties, and this one, origionally built and completed in 1789 with 2.5 acres, is one of those. Its fully modernized, new appliances, air con etc, premium memory foam beds etc. We bought it not just to rent, but to live in the off season, if there ever is one.

What makes this property unique

Location is superb, close to stores, and across the street from the beach. Lots of flowers and some new fruit trees, another one of my new hobbies.

If your a rose affictionado, read up on the finding of the famous Belfield Rose in 1953 right here on the property. It was found by Mr. Richard Thomson, Chairman of the Old Rose Committee of the American Rose Society . Its positive identification by Richard was completed in 1956, The R. chinensis semperflorens or “Slater’s Crimson China”, better know to Bermudians and now around the world as the “Belfield” rose. http://rosesinbermuda.com/?page_id=31
