About this property
Charming frontbeach villa with 4 bedrooms 1 with AC, WiFi in beautiful Moorea
My parents, French father and Tahitian mother, built this beautiful wooden house on stilts 50 years ago when Mo'orea was encircled by only a sand road and there were perhaps a dozen cars on the island. It has been renovated in 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2020. The wooden shingled roof is covered with white tin which, when you arrive from the sea, is hidden by the trees. Glass doors invite you to the sight-seeing of the beautiful gardens and lagoon from the living room. The paintings, furniture, decoration and Tahitian bedcovers contribute to the warm mood of this house: 1st floor 490 sq ft, mezzanine (above the 3 rooms) 213 sq ft, terrace 140 sq ft; garden 5 000 sq ft. 3 rooms of 50 sq ft with king size bed (the ocean front room is air-conditioned), 2 bathrooms of 30 sq ft, loft of 213 sq ft: a queen size bed, 2 king size matresses, 1 cradle; living room of 180 sq ft with beautiful space under the roof, kitchen of 60 sq ft, terrace of 140 sq ft with outdoor table;
Outdoor: Garage annexe: a massage studio of 40 sq ft, a covered parking for 2 cars, a motorized large gate, a wooden tiled walkway from the parking to the house, 107 ft long, very convenient when it's raining; A front and back garden of flowers and fruit trees, which can be lit up at night;
The break into the reef barrier (path) is just across the lagoon and you can anchor a boat in front of the house between the corals. The swimming spot is comfortable on a white sand bottom and ideal for walking and snorkeling. The shore is bordered by a rock protection and a tiny sand beach emerging only on low tide. The water, knee-deep for a few steps, becomes turquoise and then marine blue, which is ideal for walking, snorkeling and scuba-diving on both sides of the spot. You may see leopard rays, shells, fish, a turtle, some nice colored inhabitants of the corals...
A small mountain in the back protects the house from the cool southwinds in dry period (july).
The refreshing and constant trade winds on the North coast offset the heat while insuring the best exposure to the sun on the island. It also partially explains why there are fewer mosquitoes here than inside the valleys. The pure sea air, the tranquil lagoon, the calmness, the beauty of the garden and the character of the house, all will seduce you.
The location is very convenient. The trip to Pape'ete lasts 30 mn by fast ferry, 45mn-1 hour by ferry. The house is also 1.8 mile from the golf course, 1.2 mile from the commercial centre of Maharepa (doctors, drugstore, bank, fashion clothes, souvenirs ...). There are 34 snacks, restaurants, galeries and shops, in a range of 3 miles. There's a grocery store at a walking distance.
Mo'orea probably answers more to tourists’ expectations than Porapora which was an American military base during the World war II. In Polynesian history, as clanic wars were frequent, Mo'orea welcomed defeated and fleeing troups from Tahiti. Captain Cook came at the end of the 18th century. Today, about 2000 persons live in Mo'orea and work in Tahiti. Most of the local painters and scupltors seek inspiration on the island for its natural beauty and appreciate the friendliness of its people. Some locals speak English, most speak Tahitian, one of the polynesian languages of the triangle: Hawai'i-Easter island (Rapa nui) and New-Zeland (Te-ao-tea-roa). The official language is French.
directions: If you leave from the Vaiare ferry boat dock, it is 5 miles heading to the east, in Maharepa, between the airport and Cook's bay. You'll pass a first hotel, the Sofitel Ia ora, the viewpoint of Toatea and the turnoff to the airport, you have 2.5 more miles to go. The home is 200 yards after the U grocery store (Magasin Rémy) -mountain side- and just before the boutiques “Les colorées”. From the grocery store, it’s after the first little white bridge and the 1st light pole, on the sea side; the garage walls are yellow and red, the property is edged with a long wooden wall on the roadside.
If you go beyond the Mo'orea Beach resort hotel & SPA, then you have gone 1 mile too far.
Tahiti beach house is right in front of a small barier reef break (path) Irihonu (Turtle landing), North-east from Cook's bay, therefore you can arrive by private boat and anchor in front of the house.
