We do not live in the area, but have people locally who can help if needed.

The pedestrian center is the historic heart of Aix-en-Provence, featuring narrow cobblestone streets, elegant 17th- and 18th-century buildings, and beautifully preserved facades. Key landmarks include the Cathédrale Saint-Sauveur, Hôtel de Ville, and the Place d'Albertas, reflecting the city's Baroque and Classical heritage. The area is dotted with fountains, giving Aix its nickname, “the city of a thousand fountains.”

Shops & Markets
A mix of local boutiques, artisan shops, and high-end brands make the neighborhood a shopping destination. The daily open-air markets (especially on Place Richelme and Place des Prêcheurs) offer fresh produce, flowers, cheeses, olive oils, and Provençal specialties. Bookstores, art galleries, and antique shops are also common throughout the center.

Cafés, Restaurants & Local Life
Streets like Rue Espariat and Rue Gaston de Saporta are lined with terrace cafés, bakeries, ice cream shops, and wine bars. The pedestrian layout encourages a relaxed lifestyle, with people walking, chatting, or enjoying a coffee in the sun. It's also a favorite area for students (thanks to the nearby university) and artists, maintaining a vibrant, creative energy.

Accessibility & Atmosphere
Entirely walkable and closed to vehicles, the area is ideal for strolling, window shopping, or simply getting lost in the maze of historic streets. During weekends and evenings, the neighborhood is lively but retains its refined and cultured ambiance. Street performers, local musicians, and small festivals often add to the ambiance, especially in warmer months.

Nearby Attractions
Cours Mirabeau, on the southern edge of the pedestrian zone, is one of the most iconic boulevards in France and a must-visit. Nearby parks like Parc Jourdan or the Pavillon de Vendôme gardens offer green escapes just outside the center.

To travel from Marseille Provence Airport (MRS) to Aix-en-Provence, you have several convenient options depending on your budget, timing, and preference:

🚐 1. Airport Shuttle Bus (Navette Aéroport) – Most Popular Option
Duration: ~30–35 minutes
Cost: ~€10.00 one-way
Frequency: Every 30 minutes (more frequent during peak times)
Departure Location: Outside Hall 1 (Platform 6) of Marseille Airport
Arrival Location: Aix-en-Provence Bus Station (Gare Routière), close to the city center
🌐 Tickets & schedule: https://www.lecar.fr
➡️ No need to book in advance, but you can reserve online. Luggage is included. This is the most reliable and direct option.

🚕 2. Taxi or Private Transfer
Duration: 25–35 minutes
Cost: ~€50–€70 (more at night or weekends)
Where to find: Taxi stand directly outside airport terminals
➡️ Great if you have lots of luggage or are arriving late at night. You can also pre-book a private shuttle or Uber (check availability depending on time).

🚗 3. Car Rental
Duration: 25–30 minutes via A7 and A51 highways
Rental agencies: Available on-site at the airport (Avis, Hertz, Europcar, etc.)
➡️ Ideal if you're planning to explore Provence and need a car anyway. Be aware that parking in central Aix can be expensive or limited.

🚄 4. Train (Less Practical)
While Aix-en-Provence has two train stations, neither connects directly to the airport without a bus: You’d need to take a shuttle to Vitrolles-Aéroport Marseille-Provence station and transfer to Aix-en-Provence TGV or Aix Centre—but this is longer and less direct than the bus.

✅ Best Choice:
Take the airport shuttle bus – it’s affordable, fast, and drops you near the pedestrian center of Aix. Let us know if you’d like help with return timing or navigating from the Aix bus station to your accommodation!
