About Don Aamodt
As a farm boy raised on an apple orchard in Stillwater, MN, I grew up loving the outdoors. With my father and grandfather, I spent my childhood hunting, fishing and camping in the woods 'Up North.' Though my wife (who grew up in Sonoma, CA wine country) and I now live in the Central Valley farming region of California, our love for woods and waters of Minnesota ensures that we make time for yearly visits to Strawberry Lake Cabin. With its tucked-into-the-trees setting next to sparkling, spring-fed Strawberry Lake, we've found no better place in the world for slowing down and recharging together. And, we think you'll agree. Don't hesitate to contact us with questions about the cabin and the surrounding area of Detroit Lakes - we're happy to help! What's most important to us is helping you create happy and hopefully lasting vacation memories. If there's any possible way, we can enhance your vacation experience at our property please contact us by phone, text or email...we aim to provide you a first-rate service. Don Aamodt, Owner P.S. - If you'd like more information about us or a more personalized booking process, please visit us at the Detroit Lakes Chamber of Commerce website under the 'Where to Stay' - 'Vacation Homes' link.

Why Don Aamodt chose Ogema
When I came to see the lot on Strawberry Lake, I was hooked. This lakefront property - though overgrown and in the need of TLC - captured everything I loved about my youth in Minnesota: a thick cover of trees to mark the passing of the seasons and to keep the cabin secluded, a sandy lakefront for launching canoes, and acres of crystal-clear water. The cabin itself is a new construction - built in 2013 - and provides lots of amenities we didn't have back in my days of camping in the MN woods, including a full kitchen with stainless steel appliances, a downy bed for restful nights, and radiant heated floors and walls.
What makes this Cabin unique
Too many to name! Mostly, we love its Off-The-Beaten-Path secluded feeling, in the dense trees, the big front deck facing the water, the private boat dock, and the lofted bedroom that feels like a treehouse - a place where you can escape the rest of the world for a while. NEW unique benefit!...we now have a 14 ft. Lund fishing boat with a 9.9 hp 4 stroke Honda motor for you to rent at the following flat rates: 2-3 night stays: $80.00 (1st tank of gas free) 4 or more night stays: $180.00 (1st tank of gas free) 14 ft. Old Town Canoe, with seat backs, available at no charge.

Wonderful Autumn Escape
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Strawberry Lake cabin. It was a lovely, well appointed spot to relax and enjoy the view of the lake and the peace of the woods. The cabin was really well appointed and we found the kitchen especially well stocked. We loved relaxing on the deck. and having breakfasts out on the screen porch.
The owner was so helpful when we were booking the cabin to answer questions about how well someone with limited mobility could manage. He answered all my questions promptly and we were pleased to find that everything that was described in the listing was accurate. My husband uses a walker primarily, but can manage with a cane, he navigated very well around the property and the cabin. This was so important to us since it's hard to find great places to stay that have some accessibility. While not wheelchair accessible it definitely worked for someone with mobility challenges.
The caretaker and his wife made us feel right at home, provided all kinds of helpful information and she even delivered a warm coffee cake our first morning there. Yummy!
Our time was too short, but we will be back!

We were looking for a weekend of rest and relaxation, and this place was perfect -- clean, comfortable cabin, beautiful setting, quiet neighborhood. Bonus of good birdwatching in nearby wildlife refuge.
Perfect Weekend Getaway
This cabin is truly something special. It’s the perfect mix of quiet relaxation with plenty to do. The owners thought of everything when furnishing it! We loved cooking in the kitchen and on the grill, spending evenings around the bonfire, canoeing along the lakeshore, and having the French doors wide open any time we were inside. We were warmly welcomed and felt immediately at home. Thank you for a fantastic stay!
A cozy cabin enough room for our little family. The kids really enjoyed it, along with the boating and fishing. The perfect getaway for us.
Les was great, even though played phone tag but communication was great. Les was there before we arrived, opened up the cabin and made sure we needed anything before we left. Even dropped off a delicious coffee cake the following day. Thanks Les!
Minnesota nice! Great people, great cabin! Well definitely book again the future!
Spent relaxing time with family over Memorial Day weekend. Les was great making sure the internet worked for us
We enjoyed the canoe and almost had the lake to ourselves
I would go back here every weekend if I could. If you're looking for a peaceful getaway and need a break from your busy life, this is the place to go. It was the perfect size for just the two of us. The cabin was spotless. It had a great view of the lake. You're not right on top of the neighbor. We didn't even see the neighbors. The movie collection was perfect. We just relaxed and watched movies all weekend. The kitchen has every utensil and gadget you would need. Plenty of towels, blankets, dishes, etc. Having the option to do our own laundry was great, too. Les, the caretaker, met us the first evening we were there and gave us the scoop on the cabin and let us know of some good places to eat nearby and things to do and where to go to get groceries. It was nice having him a phone call or text away if we needed anything. I would recommend this place to anyone who needs a quiet getaway... and it was only an hour from home so it was perfect!
Thanks again! We will be back!
Strawberry Lake's pristine water clarity makes it a premiere destination for swimming, boating and fishing. This spring-fed lake provides clean, clear water with 12-15 foot visibility to the lake bottom.
Consider a dawn or dusk trail bike or car ride to nearby Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge; then, walk, run or ride the miles of backwoods trails to view the exceptional array of wildlife - Bald Eagle, Nesting Osprey, Trumpeter Swans, perhaps even a Woodcock or Gray Wolf...all of which we've seen in the refuge, and so many more wildlife viewing wonders.
During the Winter months, Tamarac offers more hiking and wildlife watching on cross-country skis, snowshoes, boots or by car. Or, consider riding your 'sled' north across frozen Strawberry Lake and connect with the miles and miles of snowmobiling trails.
Itasca State Park (headwaters of the Mississippi River) is 42 miles from Strawberry Lake Cabin - a lovely 53 minute drive.
Mahnomen's Shooting Star Casino is 31 miles from the cabin - a 41 minute drive.
Pilots and passengers are welcome - Strawberry Lake is a float plane accessible lake.
