Wouldn't go back
We were a little surprised that this hotel was given a four star rating. Yes, the location is great, in chinatown in the central city, close to bars, restaurants and shopping. The building itself is a cute brick heritage building. Inside, the rooms are arranged around an enclosed central courtyard, which looks good but makes things incredibly noisy.
The first problem: We got to our room and the temperature on the aircon was set to 16 degrees - it was FREEZING - not so welcoming. The room was tiny, there was actually no place to put my suitcase (it ended up in the bathroom, which was probably bigger than the kitchen/bedroom). Lucky we planned to eat out because the room was way too small to cook.
Even worse the room was not clean - the bedding and cushions had unidentified stains on them, the shower was dirty with mould and grime. We were given one roll of toilet paper (had to ask for more on the third day - our room was never serviced). The Airconditioning was really loud, but necessary because the bed was right next to the internal courtyard wall, so if we opened the window all the noise from people walking around/eating would have been amplified even more. The fridge was also quite old and pretty loud too. Lucky we had earplugs. The TV channel selection was ridiculous - I heard Aussie TV was bad but surely its not that bad! The staff were nice but it was not enough - would definitely not go back.
