These traditional, renovated cottages are located on a working estate in the picturesque Tweedsmuir Hills of the Scottish Borders. The property is surrounded by unspoiled countryside, offering excellent opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling, sightseeing, game drives, fishing, and falconry. Edinburgh and Glasgow airports, as well as Newcastle ferry terminal, are within easy reach.
The estate features an automatic bowling alley, which can be hired for a fun evening. A picnic table and barbecue are also available in the courtyard for all guests. Parking is available within the fully fenced grounds.
Furthermore, five comfortably furnished cottages, equipped with satellite TV, Wi-Fi, and a safe, are located around the paved courtyard, along with the stables. Electric heating and hot water are provided by a private hydroelectric system. A washing machine and dryer are located in the tack room and are available to all guests free of charge.
The local grocery store is six miles away, and two supermarkets are 15 miles away. Despite its apparent isolation amidst nature, the location is still central. Edinburgh, with its diverse range of sights, shopping opportunities, and the international airport, are just under an hour's drive away. The surrounding area offers unlimited opportunities for extensive cycling and hiking tours, hunting opportunities, falconry, and fishing in idyllic waters. Famous Scottish cities such as Edinburgh and Glasgow, and market towns such as Peebles, Moffat, and Biggar await your visit. Traquair House (the oldest continuously inhabited country house in Scotland), Abbotford House (Sir Walter Scott's home), Hadrian's Wall, and numerous abbeys can be reached in just under an hour by car.
There is also a falconry on the estate.
The Steading at Hearthstanes Estate - Glenheurie Rig Cottage
Recently renovated traditional Steading cottage on a working hill farm in the Scottish Borders. Set in unspoiled countryside with great opportunities for hiking, sightseeing, stalking, fishing and falconry on the Estate itself. We are within easy reach of Edinburgh and Glasgow airports, as well as Newcastle ferry port.
The cobbled Steading courtyard is shared by five other cottages, stables and 9-pin automated bowling alley, which is available for hire. There is a free picnic table and BBQ within courtyard for all guests. The Steading is set within Hearthstanes Estate, a traditional Scottish hill farm with extensive woodland, its ideal for many outdoor activities.
Within the Steading courtyard this self-catering cottage contains a living-room with dining area, modern country kitchen with oven, stove, microwave, fridge/freezer and dishwasher. Also on ground floor there is one bedroom with a pull-out double bed and bathroom. On the first floor there are two additional bedrooms and one bathroom. One bedroom has a double bed and the other bedroom two single beds. Both bathrooms have bathtubs with shower stalls, toilets and wash basins. In total about 120 square meters over the two floors. Electric heating and hot water is provided by our own hydro electric system.
