Along Via Cattedrale there is the former Carmelite Monastery, home to the Museum of fore-classical civilizations of the Southern Murgia, where the cast of Delia, a pregnant woman who lived 25,000 years ago, is exhibited.Cisternino (one of the most beautiful villages in Italy), 20 km far:It is very pleasant walking through its small and delightful old town, admiring the view from the many lookouts overlooking the Itria valley, eating in the butcher’s shop where meat is cooked at the stove.Ceglie Messapica (Capital of gastronomy), 12 km far:From Messapian origins, it is a characteristic village known for its gastronomic tradition and its history.Locorotondo (one of the most beautiful villages in Italy), 10 km far:Where the Murgia degrades, there Itria Valley starts, the green valley between the Adriatic and the Ionian seas, and just on this plain of small plateaus we find Locorotondo, silent on the summit surrounding the last Murgian spurs. The ancient nucleus is an undoubted fascination due to both the whiteness of the lime that envelops everything and the dignity of the skilfully preserved streets.Alberobello (UNESCO Heritage) at 15 km:Alberobello with its Trulli is one of the 53 Italian sites included in the World Heritage List by UNESCO.The name, from the Greek τρούλος, or "dome", indicates the prehistoric conical constructions in dry stone. The Trulli present in the 'Itria Valley’, are still used today as homes and are an example of spontaneous architecture, unique in the world. The dry construction, without mortar, would have been imposed on peasants in the fifteenth century by the Counts from Conversano, to escape an edict of the Kingdom of Naples that imposed tributes to each new settlement.Castellana Grotte (Castellana Caves), 35 km far:The caves of Castellana are the largest Italian karst complex ever explored. The tour winds along a scene of about 3 km, including caves and chasms with mythological or fantastic names up to the White Cave, considered the most beautiful cave in the world.Lecce (Capital of Southern Baroque), 60 km far:Called the Florence of the South, Lecce keeps a casket of incredible baroque treasures. The noble palaces, the churches, the chapels are sumptuous works of art, built with a unique tender and white stone, that, when in contact with the air, takes on the warm golden colour of the sun.
