St. Moritz - A special holiday resort at any time of year
St. Moritz is one of the most famous holiday resorts in the world. The name stands for style, elegance and quality - and is even protected as a trade mark. The resort is considered the birthplace of Alpine winter tourism: the first winter guests arrived here as early as 1864. The Winter Olympics have been held in St. Moritz twice (1928 and 1948), and the Alpine Ski World Championships were held for the fifth time in 2017. The Youth Winter Olympics also stopped off in the Upper Engadine in 2020. St. Moritz will also remain an important venue for major sporting and cultural events in the future.
However, St. Moritz originally owes its importance to its healing springs, which have been known for over 3,500 years. The town therefore became a popular spa resort in summer at an early stage.
Today, St. Moritz is a place for special leisure, sporting and cultural events in both summer and winter, with great shopping opportunities and events of international standing.
Summer in the Upper Engadine
These mountains. These lakes. This light! The Upper Engadine offers impressive nature and a well-developed network of trails: hikers can explore 580 kilometres of mountain scenery, while mountain bikers can enjoy around 400 kilometres of varied trails. On the Corviglia, four flow trails provide plenty of riding fun. The lakes also invite you to get active: whether kitesurfing, sailing, windsurfing or stand-up paddling - the choice is huge. Those who prefer to play golf will find two 18-hole courses in Samedan and Zuoz with breathtaking panoramic views.
In addition to the sports programme, there are also cultural highlights: Museums and art galleries in the surrounding villages invite you to explore.
Winter in St. Moritz
In winter, the ski areas of Corviglia, Corvatsch, Diavolezza and the family-friendly Zuoz offer a total of 350 kilometres of perfectly groomed pistes - a paradise for skiers and snowboarders. Cross-country skiers will find over 220 kilometres of trails in the region and the side valleys. The trails and winter hiking paths on the frozen lakes are particularly beautiful - with lots of light, sun and space in the middle of the mountains.
For those who prefer hiking, there are 150 kilometres of winter hiking trails through snow-covered forests and side valleys such as Val Roseg, Val Fex and Val Bever. For panoramic views, head up high - for example on the hiking trails above the valley at Muottas Muragl.
An experience for the whole family
Families can take a romantic carriage ride into Val Roseg or Val Fex or go sledging down the winding 4.2 kilometre sledging run from Muottas Muragl into the valley.
