Football games and tailgating are walkable (less than a mile). The location is perfect for gameday renters as well as business and family travelers seeking a home-away-from-home. The H.W. Why Walter Cox chose Redmond Terrace
Our family history includes a long-standing connection with Texas A&M University. Our family matriarch, my mom, received her doctorate from A&M in the early 1980's as a single mother raising three kids. That she managed all of that amazes me to this day! My brother, sister and I all attended Texas A&M in due time - with my brother and I both receiving our bachelors degrees there. My sister, the black sheep of the family, transferred after her sophomore year and received her bachelors degree from UT before going on to Berkley and the University of Chicago for graduate school. Our family tree is ripe with uncles and cousins who attended A&M and almost all my closest friends wear the ring. So, I guess it seems inevitable in some ways that our family would wind up with a house that sits on the doorstep of Texas A&M. During the time that we have owned the H.W. Bush House it has served our family in a variety of roles; as our primary home for a time, as student housing for my brother and I when we were younger and more recently as a home to a family that rented the house and raised five children there. Out of my thirty plus year history with the H.W. Bush House one of my most enduring memories was of the 'Blizzard' that hit College Station back in the early 80's. It shut the city down and the three of us, my brother, sister and I, wound up making a giant snowman out in the front yard - we rolled three snowballs up and down Bush Avenue (though the street was named Jersey at the time) to get them big enough to form our snowman and then finished him off with a carrot for the nose. To this day I can picture that snowman sitting in front of the house with snowball tracks criss-crossing up and down the street.
What makes this House unique
Outstanding location and amenities. The H.W. Bush House has been in our family for over three decades. In early 2014 our family decided to do a complete rebuild of the property with the goal of creating the premiere short-term rental/ gameday property in Aggieland. The house was gutted to the studs and reconfigured as a 5 bedroom, 5 bath home with features specifically designed to enhance its new role as a short-term and game day rental home. We replaced all mechanicals (wiring, plumbing, heating and cooling), replaced the 55 year old windows with new double pane high efficiency vinyl windows to reduce noise and increase the energy efficiency of the property and we heavily insulated the home for both thermal and acoustic transmission (the house was originally built in 1960 and had absolutely no insulation in the walls or attic, as a freshman in high school I installed what little insulation their was in the house - up in the attic, at the stern insistence of my mother!). Additionally, we extensively remodeled the exterior of the home, adding a beautiful cedar beamed porch and a new Austin stone facade across the front of the house. But the most dramatic transformation took place at the rear of the property where we installed a gorgeous new pool / spa and a 750 square foot covered living area with gas fireplace and outdoor kitchen. It is truly a sliver of paradise in the middle of the city! We have striven to redevelop the H.W. House as the premiere rental of its kind in the Bryan-College Station area. It is suitable for gameday rentals and short term stays of all kinds - business trips, family reunions, anniversaries, birthday celebrations and even small, intimate weddings. I hope you will enjoy your stay in our former family homestead, and that you will come to view it as your new home-away-from-home in Aggieland
