MARIA Townhouse is situated in an excellent position in the heart of the old part of the capital Victoria. A very old building which retains many features that give it identity and character - the mellow stone walls, the arches, the high ceilings, the wooden beams, the patterned tiles, etc. The house is a few paces from St. George's Square or Pjazza San Gorg in Maltese and hence it is very close to the restaurants and cafes, the market and the stores, the pharmacies, the Citadel and the main bus station. The townhouse is practically a small pallazzina and a typical middle-class home of the early 20th century and situated in one of the most 'pretty' streets of the town. It was built about 140 years ago over an older habitation of more than 300 years as shown by the still visible 'rubble walls' in the kitchen and backyard.
In my opinion, central Victoria is the best place to stay when in Gozo. I have lived here all my life and I have never regretted it or ever thought of moving except for an occasional holiday. As one would expect it is the center of everything and all roads lead to and from Victoria. From Victoria (or Rabat its older name) our guests can jump on a bus to any of the other villages and to the beaches in a matter of minutes.
We rent 2 Bedrooms - the BALCONY ROOM and the MOHOGANY ROOM and an apartment, MARIAPARTMENT that comprises one Bedroom, an en suite spacious toilet/shower, a kitchen/dining and a large backyard with green plants and a wash room.
The Hall, staircase and first floor landing make up the common area where our guests can sit and relax, have a drink, read or just watch the passers-by from behind the typical glass door or net-curtain.
This is the MAHOGANY Room complete with antique Victorian furniture, patterned floor tiles and with a large window overlooking the backyard. A spacious, quiet and restful room that comes with an exquisite en suite bathroom (full-size bath). We can prepare this room with an over-size double bed or with twin beds according to our guests' preference.
One of our guests smilingly commented that this room restores one's inner peace.
At the moment we offer a 'sleep only' service and no breakfast is served. However, we supply complimentary tea and coffee facilities in each of our rooms. A good breakfast may be had at Pjazza San Gorg at Café San Gorg twenty paces from the Townhouse complete with a couple of the local dainty Maltese pastizzi (cheese pies or pea pies).
