About this property

Country Living, City Conveniences In The Rural Heart Of The Land Of The Umpqua

This two story home has been updated with modern conveniences but affords the tranquil atmosphere of simpler times. When you enter the picket-fenced gardens through the gate house, you will immediately feel at home. A seasonal succession of vegetation surround the house, and wildlife wander in to taste the bounty. Downstairs you will find a fully equipped kitchen (microwave, refrigerator, electric stove, dishwasher, small appliances, etc. ), full sized bathroom with tub/shower combination, dining room, library, living room, bedroom with queen sized bed, entry, and laundry room. The three large bedrooms upstairs each have a sitting area and closets. Each bedroom is uniquely decorated and named after a member of the Pearce family who lived in the home from 1895 to 1996. The upstairs bathroom has two sinks and a beautifully tiled large shower. American made braided rugs and homemade window dressings were placed in every room to add to the historic atmosphere. A ductless heating/cooling system allow comfort control in each room. In the library, you will find a large assortment of games (cribbage, Mexican train dominoes, rummy, etc.) and jigsaw puzzles, books, cd/phonograph/radio (with old time radio cds), and TV. A gas BBQ is available on the front porch. The porch is tiled and furnished with chairs to comfortably sit and enjoy the breeze off Deer Creek on a hot summer day. Although there are many great things to do in Douglas County, this place is a great place to just hang out and relax.

Perfect family getaway
Plenty of room for our family. The upstairs rooms all have sitting areas. We love the downstairs layout with multiple sitting areas. Everything is labeled in the kitchen. The boys’ favorite thing was Boots, the big farm cat, who hung out with our dog while we were there. 🐈‍⬛ 🐶

A blessing
Our stay was for a wedding in Roseburg. Ellen and cat "Boots" received us with open "paws" and the home is a treasure of history and warmth. Thank you, Ellen, for your personal care.

Birthday Weekend
Very nice host. She made sure we had checked in ok, with a phone call, on the evening of our arrival. Later we had a special request and she responded with in a few minutes with an answer to our request. The cat "boots" was very friendly and always greeted us when we came home. For our family the outdoor cat was a nice bonus to our stay. Because we were in the area for an event in Myrtle Creek, we were not able to spend as much time at the home, as we might have liked, to enjoy the many ammenites the host has supplied for visitors. The home is supplied with a nice array of books, videos, games and puzzles for your entertainment. The home is also nicely furnished with three nice size upstairs bedrooms and one smaller down stairs bedroom all with queen size beds. The two bathrooms, one upstairs and one down stairs, were adaquet for our party of 7. Each of the upstairs bedrooms includes a small sitting area to relax or read. The house includes several areas both inside and out where you can visit, read or play games as well as several indoor and outdoor eating areas. The home is in a very nice setting close to town and yet with a rural feel and a wonderful view out across the fields. Would be glad to stay here again and would recommend for anyone wanting a nice place to stay in the Roseburg area. The host was very accomidating a wonderful to work with.

About the host

My husband Larry and I have been in the cattle business since 1972. We are active members of the Douglas County Farm Bureau and enjoy our relationships with our "fellow farm friends". We are members of the Chamber of Commerce and support projects and community activities within Douglas County. I am a former school teacher and have always enjoyed being creative in the classroom and life. This historic house has been a new outlet for creativity.

Why they chose this property

We purchased this farm house and 80 acres in January 2013, because it was continuous with the 730 acres of ranch property that we already owned. We did not want a housing development next door to our ranching operation. We sold a ranch in the San Francisco Bay Area in 2004 and moved our cattle operation to Roseburg. Our home is a half mile south of the Pearce home. The Pearce home was terribly neglected, and the restoration project has taken two years. It has been a creative endeavor and a labor of love.

What makes this property unique

This home is uniquely situated just outside the Roseburg city limits on the north side of grazing lands and forested areas. A two mile drive west from the farm house on Douglas Avenue brings you to the historic downtown of Roseburg. Brix 527, Salud, and Dino's Ristorante are all great places to eat downtown. Day trips east to the beautiful waterfalls of the Umpqua River or west to the coast are easily made with the Pearce House as your home base. Winery tours or fishing expeditions are things that even/especially the locals enjoy. Graffiti weekend (old car event) and the County Fair attract many visitors to Roseburg. Umpqua Community College and Umpqua Actors Community Theatre provide excellent theatre experience throughout the year.
