Portsmouth is a city steeped in history. As well as being the birthplace of authors Charles Dickens and H G Wells, it is the home of the Royal Naval dockyard with its historic ships, Henry VIII's Mary Rose, Nelson's flagship Victory, HMS Warrior and the submarine museum.
Newer attractions include the award winning Gunwharf Quays waterfront complex, with shops, restaurants, cinemas, Bowlplex and the spectacular Spinnaker Tower, the tallest building in the UK outside London, with 360 views from its 150m viewing platform.
There are miles of beach promenade with fantastic views across the Solent to the Isle of Wight (get the passenger hovercraft or ferry for a day trip). Also more traditional seaside attractions such as the pier, boating lake and mini golf.
Visit Glorious Goodwood for horse racing or the iconic Festival of Speed and vintage car events.
Just under hour and half away from London by direct train.
What makes this house unique
This is not the usual type of holiday rental, it is our own home, in which we rent out a bedroom whilst we are away several times a year. It's therefore comfortable, clean and very well equipped - a home from home!
