Why Terry Snutch chose Arorangi District
We had been traveling to Rarotonga once or twice a year for 25 years, variously renting around the island and ultimately settled on staying at this gorgeous Lockwood house 8 years ago. The evening sunsets, beautiful beach and warm lagoon hooked us and we purchased the property in 2014. Since then we have upgraded the living, dining and bedrooms as well as new kitchen appliances and fridge.
What makes this House unique
Very secluded, quiet and comfortable yet easy walk to grocery stores and restaurants and bars just down the beach.
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
Terry and property manager Kimi was a pleasure to deal with. Property is everything promised.
We had a fabulous time. The house has everything you need. It is right on the beach and very private. Close to supermarket, cafes and beachside restaurants. Can highly recommend it. Felt like a home away from home.
Right on beach not great for snorkeling but can cool off at all rides. Very clean
Lovely Kimi most helpful. Good location for town and restaurants
Excellent location and beautiful views
This our second stay at this home. We enjoyed it so much two years ago, we decided to book again. A great location not too far from town and a great place to enjoy the beach and sunsets. The home is nicely maintained and has some recent updates including new windows with screens and dishwasher. The home has a well equipped kitchen, so we were not limited in our gourmet pursuits. The owner responded to inquiries very promptly and provide helpful and useful information on the amenities near the home and use of the home. The housekeeper came to welcome us to the home and provided us with an orientation of the home. We would stay at this home a third time. Kia Orana!
Private, well-equipped and unfussy retreat.
A great home base for our vacation, it was comfortable and had everything we needed, and the location not to be beat. Easy walking distance to local restaurants and little shops, and easy to hop on a bus or hire a car or scooter to explore with.
We loved the large, private yard with flowers and fruit trees, and easy direct access to the quiet, sandy beach. We spent plenty of time watching whales cruise by beyond the reef, checking out sea life within the lagoon, and chilling out on the sand with the local kitty (Stewie, what a love!), the occasional dog, and being entertained by hens, peeps, myna birds, and the cocky roosters.
Being tucked away from the road and oriented towards the beach, it was quiet and private and we took in some amazing sunsets, never got tired of that view!
The house itself felt like a tropical version of a Canadian vacation home, with the pine interior, high ceilings in the living area and lots of windows to keep it light, bright and breezy. With the usual home conveniences, and a few extras that made our stay easy, it felt like a home away from home. Not fancy, but comfortable, and well kept, and everything worked as it should.
Thank you to Kimi the caretaker, for being accessible and awesome, and Terry it was a cool surprise to meet you and thank you in person for sharing your home, we loved everything except having to leave.
Looking forward to returning to the Cooks, we are totally smitten; Rarotonga was amazing, Mauke something else completely. 2 islands down, 13 to go! Hope we get to call this place our home base again soon.
Good Value very comfortable. Excellent host
Rarotonga is a great blob out place. It is not the bright lights. We stayed at Nikkis two weeks and read 15 books between us which is great as we needed to just step off the world for a bit. We took our daughter and son and law and two Grandchildren aged 5 months and three. It was an incredible family time and the house and the beach really was just the best. Big enough that we didnt trip over each other yet not too big to make management easy. We had a rental car the whole time we were there and if we went again we would do the same. Thanks Terry and Kimi you were the best.
Wonderfully Relaxing Stay
Our trip to Rarotonga was wonderful. The house was lovely and clean when we arrived. We had an issue with running out of water but was resolved quickly, however, if left us unable to use the dishwater for the rest of the trip because it when back to the reset mode due to no water.
This property is shared with a daycare in the back which could be an issue for some people if they didn't know in terms of noise. The neighbours on one side were clearing land and burning a lot of scrubs and grass for 3+ days which left it a bit difficult for a few in our party to sit outside on the deck because of allergies.
Location is wonderful and the beach is quiet. Ensure you are aware that the taxi actually costs 20 NZD per person from the airport (15 minutes), which was higher than what we were told. It was actually pretty difficult for us to get around using the buses due to frequency and scheduling. We wished we would have rented a car! Next time!
Our favourite part of the trip was the resident kitty! He is so lovely and hope he continues to be cared for well :).
Thanks for the enjoyable stay.
Sorry to hear that the neighbors happened to be clearing their empty lot during a portion of your trip. Unfortunately, in Raro, as in much of the tropics, organic waste such a grass cuttings, tree limbs, etc are burned due to the lack of local composting facilities.
Fact Check: the house sits on 1/3 acre that goes from the beach/lagoon to the main road. The property IS NOT shared by a daycare. There is a daycare alongside the main road adjacent to the house property. The daycare is a good 50 meters from the side of the house facing the road. Also, most guests spend 100% of their time at the house on the beach/lagoon side where the only real noticeable sound is the crashing of waves onto the reef 24-7. The village of Arorangi is very quiet overall and no one has ever raised any issue over many years of staying at the property - as such, I do not understand the issue of "daycare noise".
