About this property

Traditional Cosy Stone Cottage

Laurel Cottage is a rustic secluded traditional Irish stone cottage over 200 years old, located in the foothills of the Ox Mountains. The Cottage is beside an ancient trackway origionally giving access to Osey’s Rath (fort). There are three renovated Cottages in the tiny clochan(traditional Irish village) two of which we let for holiday use. Otherwise the cottage is surrounded by trees, stone walls and several acres for wildlife, including Deer, red squirrels, fox’s, pheasants etc.
Our little traditional cottage has been renovated so as to preserve its original features such as exposed beams and stone walls. It is a perfect place to get away from it all, to return to a more relaxed down-to-earth way of living (but with all mod cons!) and an open fire , for that extra bit of cosy!
Laurel Cottage has two bedrooms and one bathroom, living/dining room and open fire.
Located beside the lovely Village of Coolaney, at the end of a long private driveway, Laurel Cottage is only 20 minutes drive to Sligo Town, shopping centre of the North-West & is the perfect location to explore the Wild Atlantic Way.
Please be aware that that our cottage has low doorways, steps and a slightly steep staircase, and it may not be suitable for someone with limited mobility.

Guest access
Guests have full use of the cottage and the attached garden. A picnic table is beside the cottage for your use. There is a private car park.

The cottage is for the private use of guests. Although we do not live beside the cottage we are available by phone should you have any problems.
The neighbourhood
The village of Coolaney is aprox 1 km away, with a general store, petrol pump, pubs and a take away. There are many excellent eatery’s within a short drive.
There are many great beaches within easy reach, including Dunmoran Strand only 10 minutes drive away. A country market is held every Saturday morning close by in Beltra village.
The cottage is situated beside the famous Ladie's Brae scenic route which makes it ideal for beautiful walks. The nearby “Wild Atlantic Way” is easily accessible by car.

Getting around
Knock International Airport is 30 minutes by car. If you are traveling from Dublin or the south west we will send detailed instructions on how to find the Cottage. Directions to Rathosey Cottages are available on google maps.
Collooney Railway Station is 10 minutes drive from the cottage.
Other things to note;
You will need a car to get to this cottage.
The need to preserve the traditional character of the cottage makes it unsuitable for wheelchair access and for persons of limited mobility as there are steps, low doorways and a fairly steep stair case.
Although we do not live beside the cottage, we are only a short drive away and available by phone if you have any questions.
There is Free Wifi at the cottage, a Television , and the associated hifi has bluetooth input, so that you can play your own music from phone/tablet or laptop.

An unbelievable gorgeous and exciting place to stay
We stayed at Laurel Cottage for 14 blissful days. The house is so well done. It is so picturesque, the surrounding property is breathtaking nature, and it is very accessible to all sorts of fascinating sites to see and things to do. Coolaney is a cute village accessible by a short tree bowered beautiful walk. The new Yeats trail has 16 stunning locations and trails to visit. You can hike up mountains, see Neolithic cairns, listen to pub music, eat at the villiage restaurant which is excellent, see amazing waterfalls, take a boat ride on Lough Gill and reside in utter peace at night. We had lovely peat fires most evenings. Rothosey Cottages are on Google maps, which means you get great directions. The beaches are grand. Marilin and David are superb people, and their father Jack, all helpful, friendly, and fascinating. The people in town are also so friendly--we made quick friends with a couple and shared some meals. We just couldn't believe each day was so spectacular. It was the trip of a lifetime. Dublin airport is not a bad drive either. The sense of Irish history is overwhelming and so interesting. This west coast is the "real" Ireland. Enjoy!

Lovely cottage in a perfectly peaceful setting
We are avid hikers/walkers, and this location suited us perfectly. The host has outlined some great walks and we found tons of others within easy driving distance. Really friendly locals in the village of Coolaney also made us feel welcomed. The cottage has central heating and a fireplace, which really added charm when we came home after a long walk

I grew up here in Sligo and although I spent many enjoyable years studying in Galway and working in Cornwall, my family and I returned home to live because we love it here.

I'm very interested in Art, always baking and I love the wildlife and beautiful scenery in Sligo.

It is really enjoyable and interesting to meet people from other places and make them at home while they discover or revisit Sligo.
