About this property
Family Friendly in Idyllic Setting with Private Pool and Large Garden.
You have a world of choice considering where to go and where to stay, there are thousands of lovely holiday homes out there, so why come and stay here? To start with you could look at our reviews and find out what people who have actually stayed here love about the place and why some of them come back again and again!
We understand that not everyone looks for the same thing in a holiday home but if you are reading this then something about our house has already appealed to you. So let me describe it a little for you.
The house is a gite on it's own so you are not sharing the pool or garden with anyone else. We do live next door so we are on hand to help with any questions or suggestions about places to visit. We will keep the pool clean during your stay and we can often be found working in the garden and keeping the grass cut.
It's so quiet here, you can sit in the garden and hear nothing but the birds twittering, crickets singing and maybe a cockerel crowing. From time to time you will hear the frogs in the pond, they get a little amorous and vocal at times! Yes, of course, cars go through the hamlet, you will need one yourself if you stay here. But, this is really rural France, deep in the heart of the Perigord/Limousin Natural Park.
We are surrounded by forests and lakes and the sky is so blue and clear. The night sky is a wonderment, so clear and vast and you can watch the satellites going over.
Also in the evenings the bats come out of the nearby barns and fly off for the night, if you are awake early you can see them return and climb up the barn wall and crawl into their nesting holes.
The outside space here is lovely and is continuing to evolve as we come up with new ideas and schemes. We have made various outside areas for you to enjoy. Firstly, by the house is the front terrace, where you can sit under the wisteria. This area gets very warm during long, hot summer days as it is surrounded by the walls of the house and barn but in the evening it provides the perfect setting for a pre-dinner drink.
The pool is an above ground, wooden one, perfect for cooling off when it gets a little too warm, with a wooden decked area and an area of grass where you will find sunbeds, and parasols for some shade. Nearby is a paved terrace with two comfortable adirondack chairs made by John with a view over the pool area.
Further down the garden you will find a large nest swing hanging from the cherry tree and a flat grassed area ideal for playing badminton, croquet or boules. Plus a bench in the shade for the spectators. A recent addition is a small pond, fully fenced and the gate is kept locked. We have goldfish and frogs and various other wildlife, there is something very soothing about watching the fish swim around.
Inside the house on the ground floor, you will find a large, light, well equipped kitchen, with gas/electric range cooker, fridge freezer, microwave and dishwasher. The back door provides access to the back garden down a short flight of wooden steps here there is a washing line, the small house is the old bread oven and some more shady areas under the fig and linden tree. In the back garden you will also find the barbecue and there is the sturdy picnic bench John has made. Great for dining al fresco!
The lounge is both spacious and at the same time cosy, providing patio doors opening on to the front terrace for summer and logburner for those chilly Spring/autumnal evenings. This is where the wifi router is, you will get a good signal in the house but this is rural France and the wifi will not extend to the garden or pool area but you are on holiday! Why not switch off your devices and enjoy the space outside?!
Leading off the kitchen is the large bathroom and separate toilet. With a spacious shower cubicle, providing an overhead shower and a hand shower and a bath tub, also with a hand shower, ideal for bathing young children. We supply a large bath towel and a hand towel for each guest, we also have towels for use by the pool. These will be changed halfway through a two week stay or upon request.
Upstairs are three bedrooms, the first has an extremely comfortable king size bed, the second a French style double and the third, two single beds, which can be pushed together if needed. All are supplied with fresh white bed linen, which will be changed halfway through a two week stay or upon request.
The hamlet is small, so we do not have a bar restaurant within walking distance but there are several good places to eat within a short driving distance.
We hope you will be interested in coming to spend your holiday here and we look forward to meeting you. If you have any questions we will be happy to answer them.

About the host
Hosted by Ruth Sharman
John and I used to take holidays in France, usually in Normandy but we also ventured further south on occasion. We loved the more relaxed pace of life and the feeling of space you find here and the politeness of the French people. So we formulated a loose five year plan to sell up in England and move to France permanently. After two years, we could not remember what we were waiting for and put our house on the market! We arrived in May 2010 and found this house soon after, it needed some work and updating before we were happy that we had somewhere other people would like too.
We are a relaxed couple, (who wouldn't be living here?!) we enjoy our lives just the way they are. We are friendly and approachable and will be only too happy to help you have a great holiday, We will be delighted to meet you if you feel that you will enjoy this experience too.

Why they chose this property
When we first saw the house it felt right, we were looking for two properties, one for us to live in and one we could let out as a holiday home. The house had been empty and unloved for several years so we needed to give it back some character, it also became our home for the first year as we began the task of turning the barn next door into our home. We love this part of France, it is green and peaceful and very much an escape from the speed of modern life, we hope you will enjoy it as much as we do.
What makes this property unique
We are not a gite complex so you are not sharing a peaceful location with others or all trying to use the pool at the same time! If you are looking for quiet, then we are certain you will find it here. Sometimes, sitting outside, all you can hear are the birds.
The living areas inside the house are light and airy and there is so much outside space you need never feel over crowded. At the same time we are not far from amenities and places of interest and the roads are so quiet it is a pleasure to travel around.
