About this property

Staggaringly beautiful, luxurious, bright and spacious house Dordogne/Lot border

Hello and welcome to Ledre, our stunning old stone house, 2 km outside the ancient village of Gavaudun with its 12th century chateau and beautiful restaurant and just 15 minutes from the lively bastide towns of Monpazier, Monflanquin and Villereal.
The house is totally secluded and set in 35 acres of garden, fields and woodland and has 4 extremely large bedroooms, all en suite, and a self-contained gite that sleeps 4 down a wiggly path just a few yards away from the main house. At the heart of the house is the spacious, open plan kitchen with a table seating 12 people. From here double doors give direct access to an enormous terrace, with another dining table, luxury lounging sofas and sunbeds and a huge swimming pool - 45x30 feet. From here, the only other sign of life is the view of rolling fields and an old farmhouse, way way off in the distance.
There are 2 reception rooms, one large but comfy den just off the kitchen, and another up the stairs which can easily accommodate 12 people for a cozy film night. Both have Sky TV. Outside, there is another covered dining area next to the donkey barn (yes, we have 2 donkeys, Cleo and Fin - fond of carrots but generally just do their own thing) just a few feet from the terrace. On the other side of the house there is a terrace running over 100 feet along the whole length of the house with modern lighting, more seating and sun loungers.
Ledre is an absolutely beautiful property in one of the most sought after areas of South West France. It is perfect for those who wish to engage in the endless activities in the surrounding area or those who simply want to lounge by the pool with a cocktail!
We are just 35 minutes from Bergerac airport.
Internet, WiFi etc.

Hi. We are Allyson and Barney. We lived in London for 30 years but moved down here in 2013 for a change of pace. Understatement of the year. We absolutely love it here but we've just bought another town house down the road in Villereal (initially to do up and sell) but fell in love with that house as well and so we're going to split our time between the two. We are old caterers, both Allyson and I heavily involved in the restaurant business in London before taking over our own pub in Camden town around 20 years ago. And we are. Hope you decide to come and join us...

Why they chose this property

Because it's simply the most magical place in the area. When we first decided to move here, we looked at dozens of properties in the area (and, if you're coming here, you probably know how special this area is) and this one stood out a mile. I can't really explain it and the photos don't do it justice - it's just the happiest place on earth.

What makes this property unique

The house is just so spacious, light and bright. It's hard to believe it's 200 years old and yet, somehow, you still get that sense of history. The setting is phenominal - from the pool terrace you look across the rolling hills and forests. Way, way off in the distance a lone farmhouse - the setting is what painters crave. From the front terrace, more rolling fields for hundreds of metres, the only living souls are gently grazing cows.
