Like staying with friends
We really enjoyed our first visit to Palermo; Roberto and Cinzia made their home as welcoming and warm as staying with friends who are the perfect hosts. A short walk from the train station, after me & my sister were able to find the right way to the VRBO (Roberto left very good directions, I just didn't follow them well!) We were greeted and shown all the amenities their apt offered - the bedrooms and bathroom are roomy and clean, the kitchen was stocked for snacks and breakfast (drinks, fruits, cookies, pastries, coffee, tea, etc) and they showed us how to use the appliances; sort/recycle the trash and provided a map of sites to see (and how to navigate around the area), and places to eat, along with some history of these places. They are located within walking distance (within 30 min) of all these historical sites (Teatro Massimo, Cathedral of Palermo, Ballaro Market, the waterfront).
The outside street is typical of most big cities, doesn't look that inviting - but once you get used to walking around the area (and crossing the street with confidence), it feels safe.
Roberto was also kind enough to take us to the airport at night (we had a very late flight back to Florence) instead of having us take a taxi. If we ever visit Palermo in the future, we would definitely stay with Roberto and Cinzia again.
