Excellently located apartment with skiing from and to the door
This apartment was as good as it sounded. It was easily big enough for 6 adults for a week skiing. Although the kitchen is very small, we were able to cook for everyone as it was incredibly well equipped. We even managed a couple of lunches in the sunshine on the balcony.
The information from Chris prior to the visit made our whole stay even better, although I would definitely recommend the ski hire shop in Helios apartments rather than the many shops in Flaine- it is much more convenient. The transfer company (GoMassif) recommended couldn’t have been better- very friendly drivers, prompt, good communication and excellent driving.
We had a couple of great meals: Brasserie les cimes and the restaurant in Helios apartments up the hill.
Skiing was good although Storm Dennis gave us some very strong winds which shut many lifts in the first couple of days. Lovely sunshine made up for it in the days following.
Our only complaints were with the actual hotel- firstly, the adult only spa was not, and full of young children every day. Secondly, on arrival (much earlier than the 5pm check in, we were told the apartment would be ready in 2 hours, so went and did some shopping and had a late lunch. On our return, the story was v different and the receptionist told us we would have to wait til 5. Other people arriving were shown straight to their rooms, so after another hour and a quarter, I asked again to be told the apartment was now ready. We were not impressed!
This however, should not put anyone off this apartment as the host was amazing as was our week once we were in the apartment. Many thanks to Chris for all her help.
Family Christmas in Flaine
Apartment was perfect with 2 bathrooms and space to relax and a great view of the mountains.
Easy access to ski slopes and village.
Another great week in Flaine
We have rented this apartment twice. This year was our second visit, three adults and one six-year-old girl. The apartment is extremely well equipped and serviced, and although rented privately the hotel staff are superb - always ready to answer queries and to give help when necessary.
We stayed for a week, only leaving the village once in order to go to the Mont Blanc Tramway up the mountain starting just outside Chamonix, We all really enjoyed this trip, on a bright, sunny day. The carriages of the tram get very full so we had to stand for some of the journey, but the views are amazing - be sure to take a camera.
Reception staff gave us the Flaine Summer Passes at our request, and also provided additional toilet paper and bin bags on request. The bread-order system works well and it was great to be able to collect bread and pastries first thing each morning from reception. Everything is kept clean and neat, and is a green environment, so good for making sure rubbish is recycled appropriately.
We left the car in the car park and travelled into and out of the village by shuttle bus, which is free, and also protects the environment. When we didn't use the bus, we walked down to the Forum - either by the roadside, or by the pathway which begins next to the swimming pool.
The Summer activities in Flaine are great but you do need to book some of the more popular ones. We played 18-hole mini-golf on the side of the mountain, took part in the archery, had a lot of trampolining and bouncy castle bouncing, used the accro-bungie, the rope walks, badminton and petanque, all at very little cost with the Flaine card.
The supermarkets in the Forum are good for day to day shopping unless you have any particular allergies which may not all be catered for. We ate out twice, once in the hotel restaurant and once at Le Refuge at the top of the funicular and can recommend both.
Back at the hotel we swam every day in the heated outdoor pool, used the jacuzzi (lovely and warm) pool, the hamam and the sauna, I would love to spend a whole summer in Flaine!
The owners of the apartment are very prompt at replying to pre-visit enquiries, and gave us very helpful advice about stopping en route to shop in a larger supermarket at Magland. We flew from London/Geneva, hired a car on the Swiss side of the airport (with vignette for Swiss roads) and drove the shorter route to Flaine instead of hiring from the French side and needing to take the longer route.
Very good property
Excellent apartments, ski in and out is very handy. The property was well maintained and of good quality. I would definitely recommend
We had a wonderful six days in this very well-equipped and serviced apartment this summer. We couldn't have had a better place to stay. The swimming pool is great and in a beautiful setting, the restaurant served superb cuisine and we lacked nothing. The owners were amazingly helpful with informative emails and directions and the facilities for activities in Flaine forum for children and adults were exceptional. We tried bouncy castles, trampolines, archery, the high walk through the trees for adults and children and the mini-golf. Well worth the outlay for the Flaine Card. We also took the telecabine up to le Desert Blanc which has wonderful open views of the mountains, including snowy Mont Blanc, and very interesting flora and geology. Thanks, Chris and Kitty for letting us rent your holiday home - we will be back.
Ski in ski out location with direct access to the 265km of the Grand Massif ski area. Just an 8 hour drive from Calais, the apartment is very accessible. The first floor apartment is south facing, offering wonderful views across the valley. Many of the slopes are north facing, providing excellent skiing for beginners and experienced skiers alike. The off piste opportunities are extensive and local guides are available to show you the best terrain.
Facilities include a large outdoor heated swimming pool, a Jacuzzi, steam room, sauna fitness centre and games room.
The pistes are accessed directly from the ski locker room on the third floor.
From December 2013 there is a bar and restaurant in the development. The bar is open from late afternoon where you can share your stories from the day's activities and sit down and enjoy a meal without having to leave the building.
There is a free shuttle bus available during the day and a free taxi service for guests between 18.00 hours and midnight. Shops and restaurants are available locally.
Free underground parking is located just 30 metres from the apartment. Guests are asked to ensure that the kitchen is left clean and that all crockery and utensils are cleaned and put back in the cupboards. All other end of stay cleaning, the bed linen, towels and bath robes are included in the winter season's rentals. For the summer season an additional charge of £100 will be added to cover end of stay cleaning, bed linen etc.
The summer season has a music festival, great walking, horse riding, tennis, golf, paragliding and rock climbing and is a perfect resort for families looking for an action packed holiday.

Chris Mason purchased this Apartment in 2009
Why Chris Mason chose Flaine
Having skied in many French resorts, as well as elsewhere in Europe and in Canada, we wanted to buy somewhere that was easily accessible by car and by plane and which provided first rate skiing covering an extensive area. The apartment can be reached in just 6 hours from Central London, or about 11 hours if driving. Geneva airport is very well served by most UK airports as well as by many airports in the rest of Europe. The apartment is at an altitude of 1650 metres and the ski area extends above 2300 metres, providing near guaranteed skiing throughout the season. The development is managed by Pierres & Vacances, the very large French leisure and property group, and was originally built by Intrawest, a Canadian company. Completed in 2009, the development reflects the high standards typical of North American resorts and has 5* Residence de Tourisme status.
What makes this Apartment unique
Ski in ski out was essential and Flaine Montsoleil offers this and lots more. The heated outdoor swimming pool may not be very eco-friendly but there is nothing to beat lying in the pool or relaxing in the jacuzzi after a day's skiing. If you have not had enough exercise during the day you can visit the fitness centre, located just above the jacuzzi and steam room. If driving there, whether from the airport or elsewhere, you can park your car about 30 metres from the apartment door, all on the same level. The private ski locker is located just two floors up with direct access to the piste. Reception is open 24/7 and is available to order fresh bread for the morning, pre-order your ski passes and to deal with any questions you may have. A new restaurant and bar facility opened in December 2013, providing the opportunity to share your day's experiences with other guests. There are activities available most evenings for all ages, including crepe making, snow shoe walking and entertainers. July and August offers many different activities. The beautiful scenery has to be seen to be believed and the walking can be as leisurely or as challenging as you choose to make it. The main lift in Flaine opens for the summer season, the views from the top of the cable car across to Mont Blanc are truly stunning. Alternatively, drive for 15 minutes down to Carroz and many more lifts are open with mountain biking and paragliding available. The apartment is available to let from Saturday to Saturday or from Sunday to Sunday if available and by arrangement with the owners. Leaving on a Sunday provides the opportunity to ski on Saturday, the quietest day of the week, and to leave the resort when the roads are less congested.
