Two story 4 BR 3 BA Ranch home with lake views on 160 acres

THERE IS A 3 NIGHT MINIMUM during antique shows. PRICING INCLUDES up to 4 PERSONS.
Wonderful 2 story barndominium situated on a nice hill in the town of New Ulm. Gorgeous views of two of the four stocked lakes on a 160 acre ranch with miles of walking trails through the woods. This rustic two story country style home features tin ceilings and pine trim. There are two bedrooms upstairs, one queen with full bath and a king room with shower bath. There is a futon on the loft. There is another bedroom downstairs with a queen bed plus a 4th office room with a full bed. There also is a sleeper sofa. There is a tiled walk-in shower bath downstairs. Three of the bedrooms have ceiling fans and of course there is central heat and air. The ranch home has a long front porch overlooking the largest lake and a huge covered back porch which overlooks the second lake. There is a fishing pier, a canoe and a pontoon boat. Fishing is allowed on a catch and release basis. Also there are three bridges on the property. The bedrooms all have lake views. A firepit and gas grill are available for cooking as well as a full kitchen with double oven and dishwasher. This home is located 17 miles from Round Top or Warrenton, one hour west of Houston and 1 1/4 hours from Austin. It is a 2 hour drive from San Antonio. Please submit an inquiry first before you book as the property is owned by 3 families and we must check usage before we lease. There is currently a nice herd of longhorns for your viewing pleasure. There are ducks both wild and domestic. We have sighted a couple of eagles now and then and there is a resident blue heron as well as several turkeys.
• We do not allow firearms/shooting/fireworks/hunting on the ranch.

• We do not allow ATV’s or motorbikes. Bicycles are allowed.

• Fishing is catch and release. Swimming is at your own risk. Small kayaks are allowed. Children under 12 must have a life preserver around the water or in a boat. There must be one adult per child under 12 when children are near the lakes.

• No more than 8 persons are allowed at any time at the ranch home. No overnights for people who are not listed on original reservations. No large parties.

• Longhorn cattle can be aggressive. Do not try to pet or feed them. Do not let your dog antagonize the cattle. Pets are allowed only if approved in advance.

Wonderful relaxing time !!
We loved this place so much we booked again for my 40th in a couple of months while we were still there :). We even got to witness a baby longhorn being born in the pasture! Pure bliss !! We will be back as many times as possible ! Instantly felt at home and comfortable . Would give it 10 stars if I could !!

Beautiful, comfortable property
We enjoyed our spring break stay at the New Ulm property. Betty was easy to communicate with & she & her husband Del met us there at the start of our rental to show us around & answer questions. The home is situated on a beautiful piece of the property. The 3 bedrooms & 2 bathrooms are a generous size & everything was clean. Linens were all nice quality & there were plenty of towels & extra blankets. There were toiletries available in the bathrooms & plenty of utensils & pots & pans in the kitchen. The common area is a cozy size but very comfortable. Del's gas heater kept everyone happy with the temperature so we rarely used the thermostat. There are views of the lakes from every room & my teenage daughter loved the loft area to hang out in & listen to music while still being a part of the group. Betty's brother AJ lives immediately behind the rental property & he made it a point to be very thoughtful. He took my teenage son on his golf cart to feed the catfish (which he thought was amazing), loaned us extra fishing equipment & even brought cushions to make the wooden bench on the fishing dock more comfortable. The fishing was great for my son & my daughter loved the many trails winding through the property & around the lakes. All in all, a nice country get away for everyone!

The Smith Family is well known to the people of Austin County with branches dating back to 1824 in Austin's Colony. Betty Smith Meischen owns the property with her two brothers AJ and Ricky Smith. Our family settled in Austin County in 1824, some of the earliest colonists with Stephen F. Austin. Ten of our direct ancestors were in Texas during the Colonial era and another handful during the Republic. Our 2nd great grandmother Rebecca Bell was born in Austin County, Texas (then Mexico) in 1832. We descend from the Bells that founded Bellville. Our father, AJ Smith started a flooring business in 1946 in Bellville. It later turned in to a furniture and appliance store also. Betty and her brothers grew up working in the family business and continued to do so up until it was sold in 2008. Our mother and father, Betty and her two brothers all graduated from Bellville High school as well as our three children. Betty has written and published 10 books, largely on Texas History. She writes a column in the New Ulm Enterprise entitled Reflections. She is a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She and her husband Del live near Round Top.

Why they chose this property

In the days when there were no cell phones, video games etc. our family enjoyed going to "The Farm" to fish, ride horses, swim and walk through the trails we cut. We looked forward to the weekends when we could go there and enjoy this beautiful place. We had a herd of cattle for forty years but the property is now leased to a local rancher where he still runs cattle. This is a great scenic, outdoor property.

What makes this property unique

Fresh air! Stars at night! Getting back to nature. Hiking the trails. Looking for wildlife, fishing and relaxation. Open porches where there is a breeze and pretty pastoral views. We like to play dominoes in the evenings on the porches as well as grilling outside for dinner. Just sitting on the front porch in the swing glider, enjoying the firepit and watching the sunset is a wonderful thing to do. That cup of coffee in the morning sitting on the porch and watching the morning mist over the lake and looking for the different species of birds make this place special in our hearts.
