About this property

Go completely Dordogne at Le Mazet, 4-star cottage with breathtaking views

Le Mazet is a charming, detached cottage renovated to be the ideal self-catering holiday home for one or two people. There are stunning views across the valley from the upstairs sitting room and from the private garden. Le Mazet guests do not have access to the pool, as it is located in Le Mas’ private garden. Radiators and a roaring fire in the wood burner (wood provided) make Le Mazet perfect for staying from autumn to spring.

Approached from the garden, Le Mazet has steps to the front door, which opens into the sitting room and open kitchen (36m²) on the upper ground floor. It is a sunny room, with deep-set windows on all four sides, a vaulted ceiling, exposed beams and a large fireplace with a log burner. It has everything you need to relax – a comfortable sofa, dining table and chairs, satellite flatscreen TV with English channels, DVD player, portable Bluetooth speaker and free WiFi.

There is a modern kitchen equipped to ensure an easy and enjoyable stay, with a dishwasher, oven, fridge, microwave, Nespresso coffee machine and Aeroccino milk frother, toaster and kettle.

Steps lead down from the sitting room to the lower ground floor bedroom with an en suite bathroom. There is a kingsize bed, dressing table and chair, open wardrobe and shelves. The spacious bathroom has a walk-in shower, sink, toilet, washing machine and heated towel radiator.

Le Mazet has its own private sitting area with sun loungers, Weber charcoal barbecue, table and chairs for alfresco dining . It has the benefit of sun from morning until evening due to its south-facing position with glorious views all around.

There is a games area with table tennis, darts and other outdoor games. There is also a covered pétanque court.

We are delighted that Le Mazet has been awarded 4-stars by the Dordogne Perigord Tourist Board on behalf of the Ministry of Tourism. The classification is based on the facilities, space, state of the accommodation and information we offer guests.

The Times has chosen us as one of their 50 Best Holidays in France for 2019. The Daily Telegraph has been to stay and awarded us 9/10.

Heerlijke week in Le Mazet

A* - stunning!
Stylishly tasteful accommodation, comfortable & spotless! The thoughtful little things like an honesty bar, homemade jam, private chef, text the baker for fresh bread, croissants etc to arrive the very next morning! Rupert & Franck were so welcoming, relaxed and were ready to answer any questions if we had any. Ideal location for a quiet, relaxed, chilled out holiday. Well done Rupert & Franck for what you have achieved there!

Perfection!
My partner and I recently spent 3 weeks travelling through France and our stay at Le Mazet was without a doubt the standout of our travels. Rupert and Franck are the quint essential hosts. You immediately feel you are a member of their extended family on a family vacation. Their attention to detail in setting up this property is simply superb. They have thought of everything you need when staying in a 'self-contained' cottage. The setting is probably one of the best in the area. It's secluded but only minutes from several Medieval Villages which hosts some fabulous restaurants for which the boys are happy to make recommendations and reservations for you. The vista across the fields is breathtaking. The boys celebrated their 12 month anniversary of opening during out stay and I have to say what they have achieved in their first 12 months is inspirational. If you are looking for a place to stay in the Dordogne, then look no further. This is the place for all seasons and is great for big groups, romantic get aways or just some peach and quiet. Thank you Rupert and Franck for taking the plunge to invest in this business and opening it up to others enjoy. Our only regret is we wish we had arranged our trip to finish at Le Mazet rather than start there.. You don't need it, but all the very best of luck for your venture endeavours. Judy & Warren

About the host

Hosted by Rupert Springfield

Host profile image
Rupert moved from England to Amsterdam when he was 25 and ran his own antique shop for 5 years before going on to be the head of fundraising for the Dutch breast cancer charity. Franck was a theater producer, first traveling throughout Europe producing Cirque du Soleil for 7 years and then producing musicals and events in the Netherlands.

We decided in 2015 to leave the beautiful city of Amsterdam and our careers and to move to the Dordogne - swopping one UNESCO World Heritage site for another!

When we drove up the long drive to Le Mas for the first time, we realized how special the place was and how amazing it could become. We love its history, character and charm and the beautiful countryside all around it, with all the wildlife, peace and tranquility it offers. This part of France is not only beautiful, but has exemplary food and wine, culture and history.

We have converted a tobacco drying barn on the property into our own home and renovated Le Mas & Le Mazet, and are very proud of how beautiful and comfortable they have become. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do!

Why they chose this property

Having come on holiday here several times, we were attracted not only the beauty of this area, but also by the quality of life it offers. It's easy to become part of the community, the local food and wine is delicious, there is history around every corner, there are lots of cultural activities and the weather is fantastic!

When we found Le Mas & Le Mazet, we fell in love with everything it has to offer us and what it has to offer our guests. Tranquility, beautiful views, an authentic and characterful Perigordine property with history, and above all comfort. We look forward to you enjoying all of this on your holiday.

What makes this property unique

From the moment you turn off the road and start up the long drive through the woods, between the fields and through the gates, you enter a special place. Le Mas & Le Mazet are understated and informal, their charm and character are infectious. Just sitting in the sun on the centuries-old stone steps, looking over the pool and the countryside beyond, hearing the church bells tolling across the fields, is enough to allow you to forget your worries and your work!

All of the small details add much to your experience of the property. The warm colour of the walls, the stone basin in the kitchen where generations have washed, the well where they drew water and the stone fireplace where they cooked. The cobblestones outside the kitchen where the cows were led to be milked. The openings high up in the walls for doves and owls.

The space, the tranquility and the beauty of the property make it very special.
