About this property

Himalayan Woodpecker - A Truly Himalayan Stay

A hilltop house located in apple orchards with 2 dedicated guest rooms in which 1 rooms is attach with kitchenette & hygienic washrooms & 1 room is good size bedroom. Memorizing mountain view, tranquil location, cow milk & peaceful surroundings are something our domain. Our house is equipped with all the basic amenities & most suitable for peace-seeker in Himalayas & especially for book lover, meditation practitioner & birders.

From the parking lot to the home ,it is a twenty minutes trek through 300 steps uphill, gaining a decent altitude from the parking area, trek is on nicely built steps, don't worry about that but due to gaining good altitude, trek can be exhausting for first timers......I believe you are fit enough, but trust me the view you witness after reaching uphill is breathtaking. The stay is nature's lap, surrounded by lush greenery, apple orchards, full of butterflies and birds in addition to sounds of Beas river, birds and trees is exemplary.
If you want to disconnect from daily chaos and city hustles, this will be best option.
you can see the whole Manali city through your window.
A little arrangement can be done to carry your luggage uphill, but try to carry light, and usage of rucksack bags will be much better. It is advisable to wear good sport shoes or walking boot, it allow certain comfort while walking up & going down in the mountains.

Guest access
The old portion of Himalayan Woodpecker is our family house built on simple wooden & concrete concept. We have our own farming land & apple orchards just in the backyard of the house. One may roam around in our hilly farms & gaze the mountains. Our family belongs to Lahaul valley (beyond Kullu valley) and became residents here about thirty years ago. Our family (including my mother, wife, our 4 kids, father & grandfather) lives in old part of the house.

Himalayan Woodpecker guest rooms portion is newly built with modern amenities and equipped with all the necessary items. In this new portions of

the house, our cow lives on ground floor, first floor is a studio apartment with big living hall, fully equipped kitchenette attached (refrigerator, gas, cylinder, necessary utensils, Himalayan room tandoor for winter to heat in the room, common sitting area out, necessary furniture & satellite TV) and hygienic washroom as well BUT this studio apartment is already opted by one foreign couple till April.2019. This studio apartment is almost 400 sq feet or more. We have a king size bed putted in this apartment. (So, this studio apartment is not included in our pricing)

The listed pricing is based on 3rd floor which has two rooms of around 200 square feet each. This are newly constructed, decorated & impressive rooms with tile flooring. Both rooms are equipped with all necessary amenities, good furniture & lighting. One room is equipped with kitchen & washroom and another room is a big bedroom. We do not have beds in any of these tow rooms, we made the bedding on ground with comfortable mattresses & linen bed-sheets & pillows. We do not have air fan or air- conditioners since these aren’t required in this part.

Food: We are operating this homestay with one studio apartment & two deluxe rooms. We have two kitchen here, one is with king size room on first floor & one is on second floor with one deluxe room. We putted all the necessary crockery, tea-coffee maker & all other utensils. We also have water purifier on first floor kitchenette. This is a free style homestay where you have to cook by yourself. We may deliver all the items such as vegetables, cheese or all other things as per your wish from market (delivery is free but all the items will be chargeable whatever you would like us to bring for you from market). Cow milk is our home product so whenever you want fresh cow milk or any other basic items, please feel free to come at our portion or ask any of our family members.

Other things to note
Our idea of hosting is to offer beautiful, natural & peaceful Himalayan lifestyle. We have our cows here so homemade pure cow milk, clarified butter & curd is always available for you. With the time, we are also trying to plant vegetables at our space so that guests can have fresh veg whenever they want. Our water source is mountain forest. We have direct pipeline from higher up. Himalayan water contains herbs & it is good for everyone. Though if you want to use packed water bottles, we can buy it for you from the market.

A real authentic stay in Manali area, maybe one of the last one !
Himalayan Woodpecker is the perfect place if you seek for nature, forests, birds, cascades and traditional villages. It is an individual appartement, in a separate building, maybe one of the highest of the Vashisht area. The view from the room is just vertiginous and amazing, you feel like on a cloud. Rajender and his family are very nice people, friendly, full of hospitality and who always try to make you feel confortable. It was a very interactive experience as Rajender is very open to receive advises to perfect the stay of his hosts and to exchange about the world. The food is also delicious, I discover so many flavors. For sure, one of the very best place in Vashisht. No hesitation for a 5/5 !

What makes this property unique

We encourage researcher, scholar, thinker, reader, birder, writer & nature photographer professionals to come, stay with us. It is an ideal & most sophisticate place for you in this part of Himalayas. We strictly don`t allow late night alcoholic parties, loud music & noise of any kind since our homestay is serene & in the lap of nature. If you want to drink with maturity, I am may be happy to join you! You are most welcome to roam around the house, meet & sit with the family, enjoy nature, climb to the pine forest and imbibe the Himachali culture. Our sincere request is for you not to disturb the surroundings with plucking flowers, trees, running through orchards, disturbing our cows or any part of the property. Do make yourself at home & enjoy your peaceful time at our homestay. Burning things & chucking garbage in non designated places must be refrained From the parking lot to the home is twenty minutes of steep walk via stairs. Are you reasonably fit to ascend? Please also think before taking infant/kids or infirm people with you. Our homestay is simple and beautiful. It may not be luxurious but we promise all the basic facilities with an organic lifestyle. Kindly do not compare us to the ambience of a hotel or resort. Enjoy this place like your own home.
