About this property

Wave Retreat, King Island

ASK ABOUT OUR WINTER AND COUPLE RATES!
A brand new stylish and modern 2 storey, 3 bedroom beach house. Elevated on a promontory, this property has breathtaking panoramic views in a 270 degree vision of the Southern Ocean and with Little Porky Beach below.
Direct access is from Barnes Road, with an immediate view of the most distinctive wave-form architecture that makes this property almost unique in its appeal to the external observer.
The hexagonal interior and exterior floor design features a main floor, an upper floor and an extensive viewing deck, all elevated to provide for the best views, and for under floor parking that prevents the obstruction of these views by parked cars.
The main floor has two private bedrooms with Queen size beds and sufficient storage and vanity space, one with a spectaular view of the coastline looking north, the other looking south. They share a stylish bathroom on the same floor with shower, vanity, under floor heating, washing machine and quality "Biology" bathroom products.
The rest of the Main Floor is dedicated to living space which has been designed for maximum comfort and uncluttered style. It contains a fully equipped kitchen with a standalone cooking station and breakfast bar, an extendable teak dining table and chairs, and a corner couch unit for comfort if you can break away from the views , tv viewing and cosy discussion. A Scandinavian design wood fire heater is a prominent feature, providing both comfort from the elements and also adding immeasurably to the distinctive style of the place.
Stairs from this level lead up to the ensuite master bedroom/studio which commands the most compelling of vistas and at the same time a degree of opulence with it's own secluded balcony. Adjacent, the ensuite has a shower over bath, vanity, toilet, under floor heating and "Biology" products. and vanity and its own small, secluded balcony.

Great location but ...

We stayed at Wave for 8nights during the XMas (premium price) period. I'll make comments below for larger groups (don't even think about it). Our stay started badly with no-one to meet us or provide access to the property at the agreed time. After 45 minutes in the howling wind we managed to find Ayra who explained she had arranged someone else to meet us. However that person had left before we arrived by 1pm and had not left access to the key for us to enter. We subsequently got a text from Ayra advising the greeter had waited and we were the ones that were late - both rude and wrong. We were on time and saw no-one leaving on the dirt road as we drove in. A bad start for a premium priced property. The property is suitable only for 2 guests, and we sometimes found it cramped. The kitchen has an extended benchtop that dominates the 'open living' area. There is a table for 6 pressed up against the window, but we still found ourselves bumping the bench. The TV area is tiny, with a cramped 3.5 seater facing the TV, however only 1 seat faces the TV. The storage is quite limited. There is a great deck but no outside table, although there is a stack of outdoor chairs in the lounge room. The main bedroom is OK with good views, but no outdoor setting to enjoy the small deck area. It is at the top of a narrow, steep staircase. The ensuite is tiny, with a sloped roof encroaching on 50% of the floorspace. Be prepared to hit your head - tall people will struggle. Although the listing advertises to sleep 7, Wave is completely unsuitable for groups larger than 4, children or for long stays. Its 3 bedrooms and a common area, that's it! The narrow table/bench arrangement is a constant annoyance. It gets more cramped if you need more than 4 seats at the table - if you pulled the table away from the window to access the extra 2 seats, then people on the other side would be pressed against the bench, and your access to the far side of the room is through the kitchen/oven side of the bench. The TV area is unsuited for more than 2 people. 4 people could squeeze onto the lounge, but 3 are either too close or facing away from TV. True lounging capacity in Wave is only 2 people if you have a cold/windy day. We liked the location and would consider the sister property but hope for better comms and meet/greet for a premium property if we return to KI. Overall poor value, poor property management, sleeps 7 but houses far less, good location.

Stunning panoramic ocean views for the whole family

Roaring fire, heating, including bathroom flooring to keep you warm. Floor to ceiling windows to enjoy the two ocean views with some bushes home to birds, pademelons and wallabies. The space slept 7 adults comfortably for our 3 day stay and was even more stunning person than in the listing. We were greeted with celebratory wine and cheese and an intro to King Island with some local tips. Pantry stocked and care taken from pre-check in emails regarding milk, bread and jam choices. Every little detail, including local flora and fauna guides, to all the amenities you would need. Thank you for great communication start to finish, for sharing the beautiful space and making our celebratory holiday such a special memory.

Excellent location and view. Very clean and tidy.

What an amazing spot to stay. We had 3 young children (which always makes a holiday a little harder) but this property was still well suited. I would love to return with just hubby for some real relaxation. Very quiet with the double glazed windows and easy to keep warm but with the 26 degree days we had still easy enough to get a cool breeze from the Ocean. Very welcoming hospitality and excellent communication from the property manager. We were very very happy.

Wave Retreat King Island - a wonderful holiday

We had a lovely holiday here. Ayra was really friendly and helpful, and the house was immaculately clean, a beautiful cheese platter and bottle of bubbles there when we arrived, as it was our wedding anniversary during the week we were there. We were there in the winter, but the house was very warm, plenty of heaters and a wood heater as well. The kitchen was very well-provided with all the utensils etc you could want, the whole place was immaculately clean. Outside the scenery was spectacular, great views from the house, and it was nice and secluded but only ten minutes drive from Currie. We couldn't fault it, and would definitely stay here again when we come back to King Island, thanks Ayra!
