About this property

Cockatoo Hill - The writers retreat

Why not escape the heat of the mainland to the temperate 4 seasons of north east Tasmania?

Set on 12 acres, Cockatoo Hill is sheltered in spectacular park-like surrounds, with an amazing array of globally endemic trees - you'll enjoy your very own private rural sanctuary, wrapped in nature and serenaded by birdsong. Offering absolute privacy but close to services, the northern boundary is flanked by a 15 acre native flora and fauna reserve boasting magnificent granite rock formations with amazing views from the easily negotiable walking tracks that are accessed from the arboretum.

A guest room with queen bed, sitting area and ensuite is available, with access to the kitchen and living areas of the main house.

The charismatic country kitchen in the house features Myrtle bench tops, a slow combustion Rayburn cast-iron stove for cooking, heating and hot water plus a gas stove and oven as an alternative option. The warm glow of timber and exposed beams encases the entire area including the central dining section.

Cosy living continues into the adjoining family area with gleaming parquetry floors, an abundance of windows drenching the room in light and a cast iron wood heater warming the colder winter months.

Outdoors a wrap-around veranda framed by locally harvested timber provides the perfect vantage point for family barbeques and enjoying evening sunsets. It looks over the serene lake. Just above the lake, the expansive fully fenced organic vegetable gardens provide fresh produce that guest of Cockatoo Hill are welcome to harvest and use during their stay.

Come and soak in what Cockatoo has to offer - you'll leave refreshed and more than likely planning your next return.....
