The Neighborhood:
Wonderful location for your Golden Bay experience - great beaches all around.

The golf course, boat ramp, Pohara Beach plus the golden bays most popular and loved beaches, Ligar Bay & Tata Beach, are a short drive away.

Only a short drive from the famous Mussel Inn, and to Collingwood which offers cafes and Farewell Spit Tours.

This part of the area has a number of potters and artists studios.

Wharariki Beach is by far one of the most stunning beaches in New Zealand. Huge rock formations, sand hills, caves, cliffs, dunes , white sand and baby seals.

Farewell Spit is New Zealand’s longest sand spit (25 km) and a nature reserve. It is an internationally-renowned bird sanctuary with over 90 bird species recorded in the area.

Heaphy Track is one of New Zealand’s nine great walks. Many people choose to walk only to the first or second huts on the track instead of walking its entire length which have toilets and running-water facilities. The Heaphy Track, also allows mountain bikes.

Abel Tasman National Park is a must see, golden sand and clear waters, 3 hour to 3 day walks. Don't forget your camera.

There is no public transport to or within the Bay, a car is essential.

Family stay in Pohara

Fantastic location with an alleyway beach access just across the road. Beautiful long stretch of pristine beach, mid February and hardly anyone else around. House was the perfect set up for couples or families, 4 bedrooms with generous space and lots of kid friendly activities, furniture and kitchen ware. Huge kitchen, well stocked - no microwave but everything else you could ever need. We were only provided one towel each for 8 adults and 4 nights, there's a cupboard with linens but a sign saying not to use them.

Perfect family holiday location

This house is so much nicer than the photos make it look. There are 4 large bedrooms, the two upstairs ones making a perfect retreat away from the kids who slept in the ground floor bunks. The kitchen is superbly well-stocked, aside from the lack of a microwave which would make life a bit easier. Absolutely great location, and lovely property.

Enjoyable stay

We had a great stay in Pohara. The photos don't really do the place justice. The listing is slightly incorrect at the time of reviewing. There was no microwave and the cleaning cost is more than what is shown. We did not have internet for the first couple of days which was an important aspect of choosing where we were going to stay, and there the communication to get that resolved could have been faster. The adults found the beds very uncomfortable and I think for the price paid they could be upgraded. It was the perfect spot for two families though and worked really well from that perspective. I would also suggest that if you expect guests to clean that more cleaning products are provided. Also that instructions are provided around what to do with rubbish etc. There was very little house information. Overall though we had a lovely time, such a beautiful part of the country and a great place to base yourselves for exploring Golden Bay.

Hazy, Lazy days at Pohara for an 80th birthday

We had a lovely stay in Pohara. On arrival it was difficult because it took us 10 minutes to get in. The key was very fragile and it was difficult to turn it in the lock. The doors we difficult to connect. We advise the company about this and said the key should be replaced by a sturdier on. The weather was a bit cool and some rain but it didnt deter us as we enjoyed walks etc. All in all we had a great time.

Awesome family holiday!

We thoroughly enjoyed our family holiday, the house has been beautifully and thoughtfully renovated. Location was excellent, great for kids being close to the beach. Only comment is the beds weren't very comfortable. Property was clean and tidy. We will be back!
