  • 'The Library' is an award-winning bach and a sleepout (a small relocated country library).
  • Located by an estuary
  • Close to stunning beaches

“2013 Silver Winner Golden Piwa Awards" BEST IN HOSPITALITY!

'The Library' refers to the original bach on this property, a small relocated country library. It now serves as a characterful sleepout and sits behind an award-winning bach beside an estuary on a quiet bush-clad, bird-filled section near Pakawau.

The bach itself is private and open plan - think designer retro-pacific styled tramping hut. Beds are in the loft and on the ground floor with no doors between. The bach's size, character and proximity to stunning beaches help to make it a wonderful holiday destination for couples or small families.

Extra features include nearby migratory godwits and other wonderful bird life, including little blue penguins who are rarely seen but often heard and nest under the library sleep-out. There are plentiful cockles and pipi at low tide a short stroll away. We have a superb selection of natural history, children's and other fiction books, gas hot water and a stove top, a trampoline, 3 kayaks, 1 bike, an outside bath and a composting indoor toilet.

A few steps from a safe swimming beach, the bach has superb inlet and mountain views. In 2006 it won an NZIA Resene Local Award for Architecture.

Please email me for more details.

For every night The Library Bach is booked, a $5.00 donation will be made to the Nelson ARK, a Charitable Trust. The Nelson ARK rescues unwanted and abused dogs and pairs them up with young people who are perhaps losing their way, for an eight week training course. This combination has proven to be truly transformative for the lives of both the young people and the rescued dogs, and has repercussions throughout the entire community. So far The Library Bach has raised over $2,500 for ARK. Find out more about The Nelson ARK on their website and which is unable to be referenced here!

A total stroke of luck finding The Library! An "impulse purchase" based on a pretty bach shot, with a very long road trip to get there. I almost had to pinch myself every day - Golden Bay is gorgeous, with things to do around every corner... although it took a lot to extricate my two boys from The Library! They were in boy heaven - a low tide nature reserve/sandpit and high tide kayaking bliss, right at the door. Unreal - would go back in a heartbeat. Thanks!!!

Great for three generations to share good food good walks good swims lovely birds. Very peaceful, perfect.

It's a great spot to check out the western side of golden bay ,there's so much to do. We have stayed here twice now, with two children, youngest 4, on both occasions have not done the same thing twice. Must do's Wharariki beach , the one hour walk past the lakes and do as the tide is going out, you get to see all of the beach and it's amazing rock formations. Waikoropupu springs is beautiful. Pupu hydro walk is stunning, Salisbury falls and must check out the iconic Bainham store.

Eco accommodation, magical location on tidal area, billions of stars at night ... just pure MAGIC all around.

Another wonderful stay in this lovely bach set in just the most idyllic location. Highly recommended.
